feeding dilemma - wwyd? - sorry long

DD is 9 1/2 weeks old and at her 2 month appt she weight 10 lbs 12 oz. I have been putting 5 oz in her bottle probably around 5 weeks and she would drink 4-5 oz of it.

She now sucks down 5 oz like its nothing and cannot even last 3 hours during the day. The only time she will go longer if she naps through her bottle and never has gone more than 5 hours in between.

According to the 2.5 x lbs rule she should be eating around 27.5 oz and currently drinks 30 in a 24 hour period if she sleeps through the night which is usually 5 out of the 7 nights.

the Ped said she is eating a lot and that makes her more suseptable to getting acid reflux. DD is always hungry though!!! She screams most of the day and it is more hunger cries. I have even started giving her cereal but she is still so young to grasp the spoon concept that she doesnt really get anything from it but i still like to try to give it to her once a day so by 3 months when my ped wants her on it she will get it.

sorry this was so long but my question is would you put more in DD's bottle? I just feel like she doesnt let me know when she is full and could eat 8 oz at a time if i let her....

If she is hungry, I would feed her what she will eat. Babies that young will not over eat. She may be going through a growth spurt. It won't last forever... Good luck...

do you think i should start putting 6 ozs in her bottle, maybe shell go longer between feedings? I know everyone says a baby cant overeat but i compare her to a dog lol - she will eat till she pukes.

and shes been a beast with the bottle since birth lol so i dont think its a growth spurt

Up it an ounce and see what happens... She has a great appetite..Trial and error at this point...

I would give her more in the bottle. She will last longer. Try 6 oz.

Nah...She will be fine!!! DS was drinking 30-35 ounces a day by that point. Now at 21 months old he is tall and slender... Only 25 pounds..

Re: feeding dilemma - wwyd? - sorry long

At 8 weeks we were giving DS 5 oz bottles. At 10 weeks we were doing 6 oz bottles, and at 11 weeks we went up to 8. DS is 4 months now and we just introduced cereal about a week or two ago - oh wow, no, it was July 4th weekend - and he is doing great. I would up the amount in the bottles if I were you, and I wouldn't push the spoon thing yet...let her have more formula. The muscles in her jaw aren't developed enough for her to eat off a spoon yet, and anyway the cereal is just a supplement to the formula, which is the prime source of nutrition at this time in their lives.

ETA: I was worried about the overweight from too much formula thing too, but DS is just fine...he still wears 0-3 shorts because the 3-6 fall off his (lack of a) butt! (Fall and winter are going to be interesting though because he will need to go up to 6-9 for length most likely).

my doc said anything between 24-30 oz is fine.

My Jojo was born 2 day before A and was 5lbs 13oz. She is 10 week tomorrow andnow weighs 12lbs 6oz. she has been eating 5 oz every 3-4 hours since she was 6 weeks. She spits up a lot since birth. She is a chunker but my doc says she is fine because she has been on the same amount for a while without an increase and will probably go till about 12 weeks without one.
The only sucky thing is that she doesn't sleep through the night. She wakes up after 5 hours at night for her bottle but she never gets through is all... she only gets like2- 3 oz.

Im a firm beleiver of if your kid is hungry feed her!!! She will eventually balance out. I'm not a big fan of that whole measuring system because they are little people not robots. they will not eat the same everyday just like we (big people) don't do exactly the same things every day...
having a guideline is fine but don't be so strict with it. JMO
