feeding amount/time for 9 week old

need some advice!

Saw the doctor for our two month check-up last week. He told us we are overfeeding DS. He said do 4 oz every 4 hours. Basically, 1oz per hour.

We've been trying for 5 days now and DS is not a happy camper! After 3 hours, he starts screaming and getting stiff because he's so hungry. I can hear his tummy grumbling for food. The doctor said just let him cry it out he'll get used to it! DH is going crazy over this.

We thought about doing more formula, HOWEVER, when we give him 5 oz he gets constipated and gets acid reflux.

Not sure what to do. Do I let him stay hungry but not throwing up and constipated, or give him more and satisfy his hunger but let him suffer from the reflux and constipation?
Any advice would help. Thanks Ladies!!!!!

WOw, this is a tough situation! How about feeding him small amounts more often?

For example 2oz. every 2 hours. Still obeying the Dr's orders but its more often. Maybe your baby cant wait the 4 hours, you know?

SOrry, dont know if that helps but thats what I would try.

Re: feeding amount/time for 9 week old

My DS is 9 weeks old but I am nursing so I'm not sure how much he's getting at each feeding but he does nurse every 2 hours during the day. On occasion I give him a bottle of pumped milk or formula and it's always 4 oz... sometimes he does seem to want more than that but I'm afraid to give him more than 4 oz at a time. We have his 2-month checkup on Friday so I'm curious to see what his ped says about frequency and amount!

Re: feeding amount/time for 9 week old

My DD is 11 weeks and she's been taking +- 4 oz every 3 hours pretty much during the day if she is awake. She takes a longer nap interval between her 5 am feeding and the next but after that, it's 3 hrs between her feedings. All babies are different. I wouldn't say completly feed on demand because they do need some sort of schedule. So if DS wants to eat every 3 hours, give him as much as he'll eat.
