fee for medical records?
I asked my dr. for my medical records so I could get a 2nd opinion on our situation. The office said it is a $20 fee to get my own records. I wonder if this is typical? Or should i have not said anything about the second opinion? Ugg....annyoing to be charged to obtain my own medical records.

It is totally normal. Doctors offices can charge up to $0.75 per page for medical records. One way to possibly get around this is to have the other doctors office request the records, but even then they may charge you.

I think its a little crazy that they charge to get your own information, but it is the norm now...I think my doctor charges .75cents a page.

One Dr just gave them to me. Another charged. They told me it's better to get copies for myself and give the new Dr a copy so I had them. If the new Dr requests them right from the old Dr, they can't give you copies later b/c of HIPA. I think I paid $9 so it wasn't terrible.

ive never requested them from the RE but it cost me $60 to get my medical records from the hospital after i delivered...it was 66 pages long

I paid $90 for the records from my REs office. Pretty pathetic they charge you like that.

Every office is different... My mom just told me this morning she requested her records (not fertility related, obviously.. but still a dr.'s office) and they charged her 75 cents per page!!

i thought that if another MD office requests the records with you to sign the release of records that you dont have to pay for it. If you get copies for yourself I know the most they can charge for copy per page legally is 75 cents.

$20 is cheap! I just paid $40 from RMA. RSofNY is $.37 (or around there) per page. LIIVF is the worst. They work the legal limit of $.75/page...and they straight up took my expensive copies of my records when I moved there because I guess it was too much trouble for them to run them through their copy machine (told me I should have gone to the library to copy them for myself to keep  )
It's not ethical IMO, but it's legal.
