Fauxtographers.....

OMG I was going to post about this the other day> I have a few friends on Facebook who are now calling themselves photographers and their pictures are TERRIBLE! I am not photographer but I def. have an eye for photography and would never go into business until I was actually professional. So annoying.

Fauxtographers.....

If you see a photographer and you love their work to figure out if they're the one so you want to compare them base on styles see what their descriptive words are. If they have none then assume they're a general (contemporary portraiture.)

Natural Light = only natural light
Studio = shoots in studio
Lifestyle = tricky because people throw the term around w/out really being it. aims to capture and document real-life events, situations, or milestones in an artistic way.
On location = shoots on location in your home or in parks
Editorial = think fashion magazine slick and modern
Stylized = props and sets
Fine art = typically artistic and you will have limited input in the session (it's about the photographer's vision not yours)
Contemporary portraits = typically formal with a little candid mixed in

Research those words with Long island or Queens or Brooklyn or Manhattan - start reviewing pages/blogs and you will then have the ability to start to see what is good vs what is bad. TRUST me i didn't know ANY of this and worked in commercial photography because at the time it didn't matter for family photography. It was all general but now it's very different and very style based. Personally, you need to find your style when selecting a photographer.

Most new photographers have zero style just basic (beyond basic) because your new. Who knows what you want to look like or what you are. The more experience or more years in the narrow more specific one gets in what they do in regards to style.

Google is your friend when it comes to researching. At least take the time out to look at ten pages of google search results. If you click on their page and the first few images haven't sold you go to the next one. Then save who you like, compare, get pricing etc. I really hope i am being helpful and not annoying with tips. Trust me i spent a lot of time typing this out and if it's silly i will just stay mute.
