Fancy Camera girls......from a camera dummy...
So I have decided I am likely going to buy myself a new camera versus a new laptop. But my question is this......which one to get?!?!?!?!?
My videographer friend and I were talking and I had said that I would like to check out the Rebel and the Nikon SLR.
He said that those were great cameras (preferring the Rebel) but maybe I should checkout the Canon Powershot SX1 point and shoot if I wasn't "super photographer girl", which I am not.
I just want a good camera that takes good photos, and with a 2 year old and LO on the way, I want something that takes quick shots.
Any non-techie help is appreciated!!!!!

You can't go wrong with either the Canon or the Nikon.
Basically I would go to the store, hold them, play with them and see which one "feels" better to you.
I'm no photographer and I have the D40 and think it's really easy and takes great shots.

I got the Nikon D60 and I love it, but I wish I got the Rebel, just because my film SLR was a rebel and my dad always used Canon. Not the most technical reasons.

Re: Fancy Camera girls......from a camera dummy...
Both the Canon and Nikon SLR are popular and have great reviews.
Like Chelle mentioned, go to the store to get a feel for them. Hold them! They are fairly big cameras so you want them to feel good in your hand.
Keep your budget in mind and only look within your price range. It's hard enough to choose between them without having to deal with the multiple cameras within each brand.
I suggest you mention what you want to do with you camera. Do you have a moving child all over the place? Do you want to do mainly portraits vs. take the whole yard with DC in the pic, etc... It might help you with the camera choice and lenses.
Try to see what is the easiest to handle.
You will find fans (including the sales people) that will favor one or the other. In the end, they are both excellent! Just a matter of preference.
I have a Nikon and love it. It's easy to shoot the minute you take out of the box.

I have the Canon Rebel T1i. I love it. It is one of the only DSLR's that allows you to take HD Video as well...
I am a camera dummy too and I found it easy to shoot right out of the box too.
I took these within the first month of owning the camera (not bad for an amateur)!
eta: I think I would go for the rebel over the powershot!
Good luck!
