Failed Vision Test
My son is 4 - he failed the vision test at his well visit yesterday. I honestly never thought there would be an issue with his vision...I haven't noticed anything that would indicate a problem.
Obviously, they recommended we go see an ophthalmologist. I know worst case scenario is he needs glasses. Honestly, if that is the worst thing, that is fine. But has anyones child failed the test but still ended up with no issues after a further examination?
The test seemed weird to me - they have a Polaroid camera looking thing and told him to look right into it. But hes 4, so he was acting silly and not really paying attention. I asked her if that could have been why he failed and she said, no...

My son is older but the opposite happened to us, he passed at the ped and ended up needing glasses when he went to the eye doctor
It's not a big deal at all. Honestly, he's so young that he will just learn that he has classes, my son got them a little older so sometimes he forgets to wear them and stuff

I get the same "polaroid" test every year (as well as a bunch of other tests). I don't know exactly how it works, but it's apparently a very useful test.

Re: Failed Vision Test
DS failed the vision test his first few years. Since I hadn't noticed anything and he really wasn't in school where he was reading from a blackboard I didn't do anything and figured I'd wait. When he was 5 before starting kindergarten he passed and he passed again this year going to 1st so I'm not worried. Everyone in my family except for myself has glasses so figured one of my boys has a chance. Surprisingly so far their eye sight is good.

Failed Vision Test
Take him to the ophthalmologist. No harm in doing so and their vision is so important.. it can affect so much in their learning and everything. My DD started wearing glasses at 3. She also failed the test and when I took her to the ophthalmologist she wouldn't answer the doctor when he asked her to "read" the signs and I thought she was just fooling around... Turns out she really just couldn't see the objects.

Re: Failed Vision Test
DS failed the test at 3. Brought him to opthamologist and she said it was very slight, so no need for glasses but they are watching carefully. He passed the test at his 4 yr check up. Don't ignore it. There are issues that can be corrected if caught early on. It does not necessarily mean glasses forever.

Re: Failed Vision Test
My son failed that test at 3 yrs old. I ignored it and he failed it again at age 4. I brought him to the eye doctor and now he's wearing eyeglasses for astigmatism. I wish I brought him in sooner. Let me know if you need a recommendation. I love the doctors we used.

Failed Vision Test
My friends kids failed the vision test at their peds appointment. They followed up with an opthamologist and didn't need glasses.

This is exactly what happened to us. He failed at 3, i took him to the eye doc, and they said he had a very slight astigmatism and we would just "watch it" and have his eyes checked yearly. It is something that can get better on its own or get worse.
Edited to add: we loved Dr. Levi in Plainview. They make it so easy for the kids, and the parents.

Same. She's 7 now and will always need glasses. But me and dh do too. My oldest doesn't need them at all...

Re: Failed Vision Test
My daughter has failed the last 3 years at either school or the peds. I take her every year and spend 3 hours at the opthamologist and she always fine.

Re: Failed Vision Test
My older DD failed at 18 months... One eye has slightly worse vision than the other but together they are good enough where she doesn't need glasses yet...I bring her every year to make sure they are staying the same- she is 7 now.

Re: Failed Vision Test
My DD failed her vision test at 3 We went to a opthomologist right away She had a lazy eye and wears a patch to strengthen the lazy eye. I am glad we did not ignore the situation because with a lazy eye - the brain sees double and if it goes untreated it will shut vision to the lazy eye - almost like a functional blindness But with the patching her vision in both eyes have improved tremendously and she still does not need glasses
