Explain Sirius Radio please...
I am thinking of getting it for Christmas. I was always a huge Howard Stern fan and have missed him since he left to Sirius.
How does it work? Does it have to get installed in the car, or do you just plug it in? How much does the system cost? What is the monthly fee?
Do you think it's better than XM?

Car self installation is pretty simple - the power gets plugged into the cigarette lighter, and then there is an antenna wire that goes out to the outside of the car for reception. (I put it out my trunk and onto the roof.) Then you just tune the radio and the sirius reciever to the same frequency, and you're good to go.
I'm a Howard fan also, but I switched to Sirius before he decided to move there. If your shock jock of choice is not part of the decision, it depends on the type of music you like. I find Sirius better for rock music than XM, and that's my genre of choice. XM also has commercials on some stations, where Sirius does not (excluding Howard's stations). The other thing to consider is sports - XM as MLB while Siri has NFL.
Both of them have online trials where you can listen online - I suggest you do that to see which you prefer. You'll be able to get a general feeling of which plays the better type of music for you.

Forgot to talk about price. I can speak from Sirius side only, but I think XM is simliar. Look to spend about 50 dollars for the unit, and about 12 dollars a month for service. You can get units that are cheaper or more expensive - depending on their features. But I think 50 is a good marker. As for the monthly, depending upon the type of plan you take (monthly, yearly, 2 years, lifetime) is how much you spend. If you get a 2 year plan your monthly is around 9 dollars I think where if you get a month to month it's 12.

Well, the above poster explained it really well - I just have to say - I got Sirius 2 years ago for xmas just for Howard, and I love it - I love so many stations on there now, that I hardly even listen to Howard sometimes!!! It depends on what mood I'm in.... I have heard XM, and think its better...

I've had sirius for about two years now and I love it. I love the commercial free music and there is a station for every kind of music you can think of.
Howard is a good plus and there are some others who I enjoy as well.
Oh yeah, def install if yourself...its very easy and you will be wasting your money to have someone else do it!

I was thinking of getting this for my DH for Christmas. I was at Circuit City today about to buy the car installation kit and called my brother to ask about the monthly fee (he just got it a few months ago and loves it) and he said to go to their site bc they are giving you a free installation kit when you sign up for 6 months or a year. He wasnt sure about the length of the contract or which car kit but you save at least $30, which is what the basic one cost at CC.

I have XM and love it!!!
I like opie and anthony over howard which is why I chose XM.
I got a new head unit with an XM receiver (I wanted an ipod plug also).
The stereo system cost $275 with both units and the XM cost $158 for one year of service.
I will never give it up...it's the best thing ever and more for the music choices than anything!

I loooove having Sirius in my car... mainly b/c of howard but there are SO many good stations!!!
I haven't listened to regular radio in almost 2 years.
