Expiration date question
So, I need to bake brownies for tomorrow. I just checked my pantry and the brownie mix I have expired 12/30/11. Still good or toss it and go to the supermarket? TIA!

Re: Expiration date question
I would not use it. There was an article that went around, about mold spores in the flour mix of expired cake mixes, etc. And that allergic individuals could have deathly allergic reactions to these baked foods. Esp considering you are baking for others, I would not chance it.
I think Snopes had verified this to be true, btw.

Re: Expiration date question
I'd use it. It's not long expired, there's nothing in it that can really spoil. I don't think it would be bad just 2 months past expiration. You have to figure those are going to be conservative

I love how there is always 1 "YOUR GONNA DIE!" post.
If you read the article, its about open expired mixes grown mold.
so you're not going to have an issue as long as it's an unopened box. snopes even says "False" to expired mixes being toxic.

Re: Expiration date question
Went ahead and used it. Still tasted great! I googled and all the websites I came across said using it should be fine. I found this pretty helpful.

Re: Expiration date question
I would have used it too. I tend to be very conservative and throw things out if there's even a minimal risk, but I definitely am more laid-back about dry goods.

I didn't say anyone was gonna die. I just felt sharing info was relevant to the topic and let the OP decide.
I personally would never use expired items to feed others, month expired or not. Not worth the 1.99 to me to take even the most minute chance.
