Excessive ear wax
So my 22 month old has her first ear infection. Question though that DH didn't ask (and I wasn't there) when the doctor mentioned that he wasn't sure about one of her ears b/c he couldn't see passed the wax....is there something to break that up? Drops or something? And if so does that just keep coming back?
TIA

Re: Excessive ear wax
I think the doctor should have given you recommendations on how to clean the wax if its that necessary, but that comment "I can't see past the wax" seems a little unprofessional, imo
There are solutions you can pour into the ear to break it up, I don't know what they are called, when I was a child it was used on me. Talk to your pharmacist, its over the counter really safe stuff.
In general wax is good for the ears and it prevents infection. Only time too much wax is really bad, is when it affects hearing.

Re: Excessive ear wax
my dr suggested that we clean the ear with peroxide on the q-tip. it helps break up the wax. not to put the qtip in the inner ear.

Re: Excessive ear wax
YES! My daughter has it. I am using debrox it softens it and then a syringe bulb to get it to come out. Doctor said no QTips in her ear.

Re: Excessive ear wax
My 21 month old DD has always had TONS of wax. My ped always uses a thing to get it out. It looks like a tiny little plastic spoon.

Does your DD flip out when you do it?

Hmmm...maybe I'll ask him to do that when we go for the follow-up in 2 weeks. Thanks!

Re: Excessive ear wax
Both of my DS have tons of ear wax. Everytime the ped checks their ears, she has to remove some to see. They both get very upset but it has to be done, I guess. My ped has also said "I can't see past the wax" and then clears it.
