Just booked our anniversary trip here, and would love some feedback on the resort/restaurants/things to do

Excellence Punta Cana
went for my honeymoon 7 years ago, LOVED IT. really can't leave the resort, but not much reason to leave. We tipped the bellhop the first day and he was very helpful the entire stay. Make sure you bring all your toiletries - if you buy there it's wicked expensive. Also, get the private transportation, it's a little sketchy with the pushing you for a taxi, if you have one already hired they will back off. Also, if it's valuable PACK IT ON YOU, not in a bag. There was a girl who arrived the same day as us but her LV luggage got "lost"

EPC is one of our favorite resorts and therefore, I highly recommend. The resort is stunning; very open, tropical, laid back feel. The people are wonderful. There are so many things to recommend - definitely, walk the grounds, see the wildlife ( just don't wear anything shiny around the red parrot....he steals shiny objects!), take advantage of all included items - bike tour, horseback riding on the beach, schedule a photo session, if you upgraded to the club, go for the water treatment at the spa.
A lot of people complain that the ocean is rough and it is rough, so its for playing in not swimming. If you want to swim, go right while looking at the beach and you'll find the secluded cove. So peaceful.
Many people also complain that the rooms are outdated but I think that's the look. Some people don't like the window in the shower but yeah, you're with your spouse so no biggie.
Restaurants - the french is delish, try the tapas, and the mexican........oh, heck, just try them all!!! If you don't like something, order something else.
Two of my biggest tips - get your tourist visa online ahead of time and if there are any problems, just let the staff know, they will fix it. Enjoy every minute of your trip

Went about 5 years ago and loved it!!! We are pretty picky when it comes to resorts, esp all inclusive ones and this was really top notch!
Food was great, nightly entertainment, very clean!

thanks everyone!
How did you all handle the transfers to/from the resort? It seems like they do not offer transportation, like Sandals does. I've got to admit, I'm a bit nervous taking a cab lol.
Also, what is the benefit of a tourist card? Does it fast track you through customs? This will be the first time I'm leaving the country, so it's all new to me

You can absolutely take a cab to the resort. Walk outside and hop in one. $70.00 each way, however, you can also arrange transportation through the resort.
Everyone that enters into Punta Cana has to pay an entrance fee of $10.00, either you pay in cash (only in cash) or you can purchase online ahead of time. Buying online does not fast track you through customs, it fast tracks you through the line to pay - there is a separate line for those that have prepaid. Believe me, buying online saves you time.

we went for our honeymoon, LOVED it. i would definitely go back.
we did jr swim up suite, excellence club & something else that was an upgrade? i dont remember. but i would request bldg 8 if i could do it again. we didnt have a good seating area from bldg 10.
for transfers, we were set up by liberty travel but it was through another service. They have kiosks at the airport but i dont know if you can reserve right there. We did the private one but a group one would be fine and cheaper.
we had fun doing tours - ziplining & the party boat tour. We also did the horseback tour that was included- DON'T buy from the guys who come up from the beach! they are allowed on some of the property. However, i would prefer to relax on the resort more next time- and enjoy the activities there more. read the list they give you daily, there's a ton of fun things!!
i didnt like barcelona for dinner. The other restaurants were great- especially Spice & Oregano. Toscana for breakfast (or room service).
Tipping- we left a buck or two here & there. Nothing major.
Boy could i go for a tokyo (drink) right now... if we could mimic it & i wasnt pg LOL
ETA- nap during the day so you can enjoy the entertainment at night! we never made it to the casino or the club. more things i would do next time!
