Excellence Playa Mujeres -
I've been with my sister already and I know quite a few ladies on here have been as well - great place! I want to take DH...
Last time, we went and were driven by American Express Travel, to and from the airport... That was great and secure. But, we will not be booking with American Express Travel - my sister did that, at the time, because she had Amex.
I'm wondering, for those who went and did not use this method of transport - what did you use instead? I'm nervous, with private cabs and such - with all you hear on the news - I'm looking for a secure way.
A rep from the Hotel itself claims they do transfers for something like 100 bucks total - for to and from - and that it is a Hotel employee in their private van. Has anyone personally done this method??

I have done this, but not at their Playa Mujeres location. We did this in Punta Cana. The taxi was NOT a hotel employee, but was in a private van. They had our taxi number and the name of the driver so I felt pretty safe. At least if we were kidnapped and murdered we'd be avenged.  Kidding, kind of. And since it was prepaid we knew we weren't getting ripped off (by the cab driver anyway). We'd do it again if we went to an Excellence location. I'm not sure about Playa Mujeres, but Punta Cana was FAR from the airport so I was glad to not have to take the free shuttles that stop at all the resorts since ours was one of the last ones.
ETA: It was a REALLY crappy van and the driver did try to sell us some pot, but at that point we just wanted to sit in the air conditioned car for 45 minutes and we didn't care. The entire time we were there we didn't see any taxis/vans/buses that were nicer so I don't think you'll really be able to find something better. Granted, this is still in DR so it may be different at Playa Mujeres.

I've done hotel provided transfers all over the world and never had any issues (except in India where the beg you to let them take you to a counsin's store). You should be fine. Have a great trip!

Excellence Playa Mujeres -
We stayed at Execellence Riviera Maya and booked the private car service with the hotel directly. .....I would definitely recommend it. Our SUV was new, clean, the driver was polite, gave us water bottles and wet cloths. Perfect...

USA Transfers, half the price of the hotel service, super clean and nice, early to pick us up for our flight back too!

Just a heads up - you don't need an Amex to book with American Express Travel. I always book through them (Travel Tom) and don't have an Amex. They just make it so easy.

Never been to that hotel, but when i have been in cancun/riciera maya mexico, I always use USA transfers. its private and very reasonably priced.
