ever been re-gifted?

Just wanted to see if anyone else has ever gotten re-gifted... today was my baby shower and when I opened up a gift from my cousin, I noticed it was strangely familiar... and then I realized why, it was the same baby gowns I had given her a month ago when she gave birth and I visted her in the hospital... kinda awkward but whatever...I guess she didn't realize I was the one who gave it to her haha... DH says I should give it back to her but i'm not gonna make a fuss. oh well..

I have received gifts that were obvious re-gifts and hand me downs (pretending to be new) but I have never received my own gift back. Now that is just odd! Chat Icon

Re: ever been re-gifted?

I look at this a different way. She's a mom right and you gave her something she may have used and loved and is sharing that with you.
If I got something from my shower that I liked I would get it for a friend and I have. And with clothes you will see there's not much variety when people gift you. They tend to get the same styles.

But an obvious regift is just wrong.

IMO after DDI was born I realized clothes as expensive and regift or hand medown bring it my way and I will pay it forward.

Re: ever been re-gifted?

To my knowledge, I have never received anything back that I gave as a gift. I have received used gifts in the past. I have a very wealthy family member that hates to spend her $, that's prob why she is so wealthy, and is know for doing all her gift shopping at the $1 dollar store.
For my shower, I got a bunch of gifts that made me Chat Icon , but whatever not much you can do.

Maybe she bought the same ones to give to you? Figuring if you liked it to give to her, you'd like it for yourself, too?

ever been re-gifted?

I'm not 100% against regiffting, but... the same gift you gave her is terrible. I regiffted a set of wine glasses I got at my bridal shower as a house warming gift. They just weren't my style.

i understand you think the gift may be "terrible" in your opinion but i would think you would have also not have re-gifted the same gift to the person who gave it to you... that was just why i found it odd.

Are you sure she didn't just really like the particular gift and want to get you the same thing? Like, could you tell it's the one you gave her?

Was that her only gift? I've given people a gift and then also brought them extra stuff that I had from DD at the same time (although I'd wrap the gift and just put the other stuff in a bag with a note, not give them all as if they were gifts). I've never given someone back something they gave me, though.

That is what I meant. It was terrible that she regifted your gift back to you. Not that the gift itself was terrible.

Re: ever been re-gifted?

My friend's DD is a few weeks older than my DD. Her DD is huge and my DD is very petite. For my DD's 1st bithday last year, she gave DD a big bag filled with lots of clothing in random sizes and from a lot of different stores. Nothing seemed to match, lots of clothes were out of season, and it was soooooo obvious that the clothes were all items her DD received as gifts and could not fit into. Chat Icon
