Errrrrr!...Here we go again

DS is refusing to finish the rest of his bottles. I don't know if he has to do with the fact that he is now on cereal?

He was having 3 tbsp in the morning and 3 at night of both rice and oatmeal. For the cereal feedings I would put 2 ounces of milk and then he would take the rest of the 4 ounces.

But now during the feedings where he just gets a bottle he doesn't want anymore after 3 ounces.

Well sometimes he gets like this when he is gassy. Then this past weekend we were away and had his milk straight from the can and it wasn't heated up. Maybe that affected him? Maybe he's having too much cereal? I've cut it down to 2 tbsp (2 in the morning and 2 at night).

He arches back when he doesn't want anymore or he'll take the bottle in his mouth and plays with the nipple with his tongue.

Once you take the bottle away he is fine and happy. Don't know what makes him get this way.

Re: Errrrrr!...Here we go again

He usually has 4 6oz. bottles a day and now i'm lucky if I reach 4!

Sometimes i'll give him a half hour break and try again and he still refuses. Then I'll wait another half hour and he'll still refuse it.

Ali has been like this.
I think it is a cross between being full from cereals and fruits
And teething
I wouldn't worry about it too much - if he is hungry he will let you know. They will not starve themselves.

Re: Errrrrr!...Here we go again

But mine is not even on fruits yet!

How many ounces is Marcie having?

Is she refusing her bottles too. I'm not sure if gas is an issue here because he does seem to get this way whe he is gassy. He's been burping more and he's also been doing it on his own.

He's back on Mylicon again.

I don't know exactly how much she is having. I am really not keeping track of it Chat Icon
Sometimes she will have a 6oz bottle
Other times she will have a 4oz bottle
Other times she will have a 3oz bottle

It is all different.
I don't pressure the issue.
If she has a 4oz bottle, I am not worried about it.
If she has a 2 oz bottle, I then try giving her another bottle about an hour/hour and a half later.
BUT - I did call my doctor and ask them about it - if you are very concerned call and ask - that is why they get paid the big bucks Chat Icon

Yeah i'm going to see how the next two feedings go and then call. He's been like this since Monday. It got worser yesterday. Now he's at the point where he stops after 3 ounces.

Re: Errrrrr!...Here we go again

In the meantime do you think I should keep it at 4 tablespoons of cereal a day?

See I don't measure Ali's cereal either - but I don't think she has more than 2-3 tablespoons of cereal at a feeding, then she has a half container of fruit with each feeding

Does your DD arch back when she doesn't want anymore. At least they are having the cereal. Could that be making them act this way?

DS has no fever or ear infections. He's still pooping. Although the color has been changing.

I think it is teething - but if I were you - I would call your doctor to be sure.
You don't want him to be sick and not have found out until Monday cause they are closed over a holiday weekend.

Re: Errrrrr!...Here we go again

I just tried calling and his doctor won't be back until Monday. I don't want to speak to any of the other doctors because I feel better speaking to the doctor that normally sees him. Unless the situation gets worse over the weekend then I'll call back. Even though it's a holdiay weekend there is is always at least one doctor on call throughout the weekend.

What about the nurses there?
It is more of a basic question - they should know the answers?
I always question the girls at the desk (there is an option on the phone when you call- that if you want to ask questions hit '5') and they always help me. Chat Icon

hey there

hannah arches and squirms duing her feeding, but she has reflux and most likely sandifer's syndrome. so sometimes i dont know if the arching is to stop the bottle or continue. we are seeing the gastro this week and we have an appt to have her evaluated at a feeding clinic. our ped recommended it to us when we showed him a video of her screaming while she was eating.

Luciano does this all the time, and he's not on cereal yet. sometimes he'll want much less than others.
I just dont see a need to worry, theyre not robots, they cant be expected to have certain amounts at every feeding.
he's at a good weight for his age, so Im not worrying. He is also fussing with his gums, so Im sure his teeth have to do with it. but Im not pushing it if he doesnt want it.

How was MAtthews weight at his last visit ?

His last check-up was in September 30th and he lost some ounces because again he was eating less because he was doing the same thing at his feedings.

Now he's doing it again. His next appointment is next Saturday.

Does he have any issues with his weight? If not, I don't see what the worry is. He seems happy, so he's clearly eating enough for him.

He's still a happy baby yes but the last time this happened he did loose a little weight, or rather didn't gain as much.
