Re: Episiotomy vs tearing- stitch amount...
With Sarah I had a small episiotomy and still tore. 4th degree so a lot of stitches.
With Andy no episiotomy and a slight tear, not sure how many stitches.

I tore a tiny bit with Lauren. I was stitched, but no idea how much. OB said it was tiny.

Episiotomy & a tear the first time.
just a tear the second time (no time for even a handshake for the second).

Re: Episiotomy vs tearing- stitch amount...
I tore in five places! My Dr. won't perform an episiotmy unless the tears are going to do more damage than good. I guess there is such a thing as "healthy tears" .

Re: Episiotomy vs tearing- stitch amount...
I tore very slighty with my 1st. only 1/2 a stitch was needed (didn't feel the tear though).. no epi
with my 2nd, I didn't tear at all and no epi.

Re: Episiotomy vs tearing- stitch amount...
I had an epi both times. The first one was bigger and when I asked how many more because I still felt it even with the stuff the gave me to numb the area she said she doesn't count. The second time it was smaller and only on the outside (not sure what that means but that is what she said) and again she didn't tell me how many.
But if I had to choose between the two I would rather have an epi than a tear because it is cleaner cut.

"second degree tear" Whatever that means. I had 2 stitches. It hurt badly and took weeks to recover.

I had three stitches internally but I didn't feel them at all. The doctor said I barely tore.

Re: Episiotomy vs tearing- stitch amount...
I had an episotomy, and it seemed like a lot of stiches, though I did not ask how many--I really did not want to know.
At any rate, 6 weeks later, things feel normal in that area, not completely the same, but the swelling is gone.
