Epidural
Is anyone else scared of the epidural? My spine is extremely sensitive. I HATE when anything touches it. The idea of having a needle in my spine makes me extremely nervous. Anyone else?

Re: Epidural
I am nervous. More about the irrational fear that the feeling in my legs will never come back so thats why I am really going to try to go natural.

Re: Epidural
They numb your back before they stick the epi in.
Don't worry the pain of labor contractions is FAR WORSE than the needle! You won't even feel it!

I have had them at least 3-4 times for different surgeries & have never had any problems.

Re: Epidural
I am more nervous about pushing a child with a freakishly large head (DH's family has a history of freakishly large heads) out of my vajayjay than a needle!

I feel the same way I am scared about tearing when I am pushing and having an episotmy that scares me more than the epi

That is my fear also. Everyone tells me I'm crazy but I can't get it out of my head.
I am going to try and go natural. Hopefully I have a quick labor and delivery.

Re: Epidural
i didn't want one in the beginning for that same reason, however when labor started I was in so much pain. I never realized how bad, bad really was. The epidural was uncomfortable, but so worth it.

Re: Epidural
Once you are in labor, you are not going to CARE about the pain of the epidural. Someone could have come in with an 8 FOOT needle and I would not have cared as long as they promised me that the pain would go away.

I freak injections so badly. Not needles so much, I actually have a tattoo across my spine, but injections freak me out.

Re: Epidural
I am TERRIFIED as well. I hate needles in general, they lie when they say it is just a pinch, it hurts for me anyways...

I agree! Once you feel the contractions, you won't care about a needle in your back.

Re: Epidural
I had the spinal block, and not to freak anyone out, but honestly, I am a baby and I cried like one! They gave a numbing shot before they put it in, but it still hurt, luckily, it onlyhurt for a minute or two and then its numb and the pain is over!!!

Re: Epidural
My two biggest fears before I gave birth were the epidural and an episiotomy and I had both and felt neither as the pain of the contractions was so strong I didnt even feel the epidural going in and I didnt feel the episiotomy as I had the epidural so alls well that ends well....

Re: Epidural
take it from a btdt mom. i have two chldren and have had two epidurals. i am hands down the BIGGEST baby when it comes to needles. and it did NOT hurt at all. it really doesnt. dont get nervous about it at all. its over in seconds. and the feeling comes back in your legs quickly. yes its a freaky feeling at first, but when your holding that baby, you dont even realize it.

Re: Epidural
I have to say that my IV hurt more going in than the epidural. I too am scared of needles and was dreading it, but it was great.Honesly by the point you are getting it, the contractions are more painful than a little prick that it won't make a difference

Re: Epidural
I had a spinal but similar. I have to say I didn;t even notice the pain. I was so excited and nervous at that point that nothing mattered.
It was over fairly quick.

Re: Epidural
I had an epidural and I didn't feel the needle. I think the dr did a great job. I only had it in for about an hour but the relief outweighed the little needle prick!
