enfamil..

Please tell me what formula you plan on using (if any at all) I was thinking of using Enfamil but I have heard some negatives about it recently. Any opinions?

I will start with whatever the hospital uses and then go from there.

With DS, I started with Similac Advance and then moved to Enfamil Gentlease. DS had lactose sensitivity so later I moved to Similac Sensitive (this was all over a 3-4 month period).

I supplemented with Similac (RTF) with my 1st and will do it again if necessary.

The enfamil link with bacteria has been broken as 2 babies unfortunately contracted the bacterial infection recently without the formula & it passed testing.

I BF and supplemented with only enfamil products

As a dietitian I would personally use any other product aside from Similac. Similac is the only formula on the market that does not contain the recommended levels of DHA (recommendation is .2% and above - Similc only contains .15%, all others contain .3%) DHA is crucial for central nervous system development, important fatty acid found in BM, and helps with immune function.
I am a huge enfamil fan. There products are closest in formulation to BM and I find my babies do much better on them.

As far as the bacteria - the truth is that there was NONE found in the formula according to the FDA and CDC. There were 3 babies that got sick - 1 was on newborn, and the other 2 were on a variety of formulas (similac). The bacteria was most likely due to poor handling - not washing hands, referring, etc. This is why I am an advocate for not only BF classes to the BF moms at the nursery, but also formula feeding classes for those who chose to formula feed.

Anyway, thats is my 2 cents. I have a great relationship with our hospital rep - and I prefer enfamil or good start products.
