Empire Plan and Prenatal Care?

My husband is a teacher and we have Empire plan NYS government insurance.

For those of you with this insurance, what do you pay for your copay of prenatal care? I thought that it is just 1 copay of $18, then I don't have to pay anymore, but my doctor seems to be charging me more than that. I am going to call the insurance company tomorrow, but I wanted to know about other people's experience to make sure I don't get $crewed.

TIA

Re: Empire Plan and Prenatal Care?

That is my plan and at my reg. ob/gyn I had to pay $18 for the first visit when I was confirmed preg. and then no more copays after that. Any blood work the lab charges me. As for my perinatalogist, I have to pay a copay each time.

Re: Empire Plan and Prenatal Care?

I paid a co-pay for my first visit. I also pay for sonograms. Other visits I do not pay. If I have bloodwork, the lab sends me a bill for the co-pay.

Re: Empire Plan and Prenatal Care?

I only pay a copay if a test or sono is done, regular visits after pregnancy has been determined are free no co pay. Though i do see a high risk doctor as well. Due to the fact he is a consult i have to pay a copay for each visit. This is actually one of the best insurances i have come to realize so far.

Me too. I'm charged through the lab for blood/urine work, and pay $18 copay for sonos. No copay for regular ob visits with no sono.

Re: Empire Plan and Prenatal Care?

I work for the state and I have the Empire NYS govenment plan there is a co pay for the initial visit of $18 (going to $20 in January) all other scheduled prenatal visits no charge...however if you make an appt to see the OB for a concern of yours other than the visit there is a co-pay.

The same goes for DC as long as its a well child visit (ie shots )there is no co-pay

Re: Empire Plan and Prenatal Care?

I'm the same as everyone else. It is usually $18 but I don't pay every visit. Only when I have a Sono or blood work. Plus, I always get a bill in the mail for the blood work. In the beginning I actually remember paying a little more then $18. I think it was around $23-25. I think that happened my first visit. Also, before I was PG my annual co-pay was usually more then $18 for some reason.

Re: Empire Plan and Prenatal Care?

They told me there was one global copay of $18 and that was it. My MW waives the first visit copay and hasn't tried collecting on other visits. I still have to pay copays for lab work and diagnostic imaging.
