Be Prepared for an Emergency. Be Red Cross Ready!
Being prepared means being equipped with the proper supplies you may need in the event of an emergency or disaster. Keep your supplies in an easy-to-carry emergency preparedness kit that you can use at home or take with you in case you must evacuate.
At a minimum, you should have the basic supplies listed below:
Water: one gallon per person, per day (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home)
Food: non-perishable, easy-to-prepare items (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home).
Flashlight [Available on the Red Cross Store]
Battery-powered or hand-crank radio (NOAA Weather Radio, if possible) [Available on the Red Cross Store]
Extra batteries
First aid kit [Available on the Red Cross Store]
Medications (7-day supply) and medical items
Multi-purpose tool
Sanitation and personal hygiene items
Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies)
Cell phone with chargers
Family and emergency contact information
Extra cash
Emergency blanket [Available on the Red Cross Store]
Map(s) of the area
Consider the needs of all family members and add supplies to your kit. Suggested items to help meet additional needs are:
Medical supplies (hearing aids with extra batteries, glasses, contact lenses, syringes, etc)
Baby supplies (bottles, formula, baby food, diapers)
Games and activities for children
Pet supplies (collar, leash, ID, food, carrier, bowl)
Two-way radios
Extra set of car keys and house keys
Manual can opener
Additional supplies to keep at home or in your survival kit based on the types of disasters common to your area:
Whistle
N95 or surgical masks
Matches
Rain gear
Towels
Work gloves
Tools/supplies for securing your home
Extra clothing, hat and sturdy shoes
Plastic sheeting
Duct tape
Scissors
Household liquid bleach
Entertainment items
Blankets or sleeping bags
How many people have an emergency preparedness kit? DS is in the middle of a Boy Scout merit badge where he has to make/buy/assemble a e-prep kit, but between living through Sandy, and seeing Harvey, I realize that it's more than just a merit badge requirement. I really should take this seriously, and have enough supplies for the 4 of us for a few days.
I do have enough supplies and know-how to survive for several days if I had to evacuate, and at least two weeks if I had to shelter in place.

Emergency Preparedness kit?
We don't have a kit but we have most everything on the list. Dh was an eagle scout lol. I could probably buy a few gallons of water to leave in the basement but in the past we've filled whatever bottles we have handy and stuck them in the fridge and freezer.

We have most of what's on that list. Not as together as it should be. But enough that if we had a couple hours to prepare,we're good to go. We keep important stuff in groups. So we can round up all of the "groups" and be ok.

Yes, I have a kit for us and the kitties.
I have also had to evacuate Manhattan a bunch of times (9/11, the blackout, and was in Manhattan as they were shutting down the city in anticipation of Sandy) so I have some things in my office just in case I need them - most importantly, a pair of old running sneakers, socks, a flashlight and a pack of batteries.

I have most of what is on the list, including stuff and meds for the cat.
Reminds me that I need to check the batteries.
DH always buys them in bulk  and we hardly use them so they go bad.

we have most of this list, just not all together. If we ever had to evac LI I'd never do it. I'd stay in my house opposed to dying on the LIE.

We have most of what is on that list, except for the tarp, but we have a waterproof blanket and a fly tarp for the tent. I also just loaned my face mask with respirator out to my mom. I have everything else on the list. I would also add in Walkietalkies that have emergency locators, and radios built in. Honestly, if a hurricane is in the forecast, I would find somewhere off of li to stay and leave well in anticipation of it.

I'm a Girl Scout

Both literally
I have kits (two) always
One for use and one to give.
I got a small zippered first aid kid with a lot of what's needed as prize from Girl Scouts twice. So I just needed to add to that some dried foods and my meds. I already make my meds in daily doses so it's easy to toss a zippy in there.
The rest all fit into a large ziplock bag I found in sets of 3 at dollar tree I use for camping. That fits in a backpack and you're done. Go light, go easy. So much camping has got me down to essentials.
Had a go bag since 9/11. Just modified since then. It came in handy during the black out that I keep a smaller version at work. It started at work because post 9/11 I work for a company who lost nearly everyone who worked for them. All employees were provided small kits for their desks. It was a small bag that fit in your hand. I added to it and again it became useful as I said in the blackout.
My 9/11 story tells the tale of my backpack actually. I always used to carry one instead of a purse. Just so happens that day it had dry cereal, an umbrella, cash, meds, brush, a sweater and water in it. People used to laugh at me for the junk I'd carry. No one did after that.
