Elwood & Harborfields SD becoming one?
anyone else hear anything about this?? maybe its just a rumor??

that rumor has been around for as long as i can remember. it was around even when i was a student at TJ Lahey (HF's elementary school).
honestly have no idea if something has changed recently, but the thing that people thought would happen, was joining the two districts' libraries (now that Elwood finally has one).

i doubt it. it took Elwood so long to get their own, that unless there are catestrophic budget shortfalls, they will stay separate.
But my dad told me that they got a notice, or it was reported that the HF Superintendent told residents to be aware that b/c of the shortfall in the State Teachers Pention Fund, the district school taxes would be increasing by more than 20% over the next 3 years.  I am still totally at a loss as to how there could be a single protected class singled out in the state constitution like that when no other group is, but so it is.

I live in HF SD and haven't heard anything about combining the SDs or libraries in the 10 yrs I've been here.

As another HF graduate, I agree - it's a long-time rumor and I go back to the 1970's when there was 3 elementary schools).
I doubt it will ever happen - both districts pride themselves on being small.
I live in the district and never received a notice either.
as for the library. Elwood didn't have one for a long time, so residents paid into another district's library system (just like we do in taxes I guess)

I went to HF. My parents are still there and I'm not far away. I remember the library rumors and I worked in the library so I know there was talk of combining them but that was so long ago. I can't see the school districts combining and if I ever heard talk of it, there was not a lot of it.

heather- that will never happen. matt works in elwood middle school and has never mentioned any talk if they were combining. he'd freak out!
