electric bill?

mine was 328 this month for a 2 bed co-op with central air- we keep the temp 77 during the day and about 74-75 at night. The unit itself is old but we just had it serviced if that matters- does this sound too high?

Re: electric bill?

We have a one bedroom co-op with two window a/cs. With only one running at a time, our bill went up over 30$ from roughly $69 to &99, so yours sounds high! What is your bill normally?

Re: electric bill?

wow i was scared for a second. DH and I just moved in and haven't gotten an electric bill yet. I was nervous when I saw 328 for a 2 bedroom. We have a 4 bedroom house and only run the a/c occasionally, so I am hoping ours is more like blue-ize bill lol.

Chat Icon WOW! that does sound like a LOT! we have a 1 bed apt and CAC. we keep ot at 76 during the day M-F when we're at work and then at 74 the rest of the times. we never shut it off.

we have balanced billing w/LIPA and pay $102 every month.

how old is the unit? it souds like it may not be efficient.

Re: electric bill?

I think that is a little high.

I have a house, run the a/c all day on 77, tv is on all day for the dog, 3 - 4 loads of laundry a week, run the dishwasher once a week and our electric bill is about 125 a month. When it was winter time and we had the heat on it was a bit higher. I think the lowest our bill ever was, $95 and that was because we shut everything off and just left the windows open.

I would say that is probably the culprit. there is no reason why your LIPA bill should be that high!!!!! Chat Icon

I agree - it sounds high and the unit might be to blame. We have a 2 bedroom co-op with two a/c units. We run them from the moment we get home until we leave the next morning and our con ed bill only goes up about $20 so we go from a bill (with gas and electric) of $75 to $95.

Re: electric bill?

Is that just for one month. When I lived in a co-op I got sent a bill every 2 months, but that still seems high. DH and I moved into our new house the beginning of May and we just got our first electric bill and it was $500. Chat Icon I think LIPA is ripping people off. I have to call them and see *** is going on.

Re: electric bill?

i live in a 1 bedroom co-op and i remember last year our electric bill being around that much (we also have veryyyyyy old units)

i got a digital thermostat, i don't know if that helped any. after being there a year i just decided to do balanced billing (because their estimates were always off and i ended up paying a little one month and A LOT another). We're billed 94/month and as of 7/7 we have a 60 credit so keep your fingers crossed!

You don't live in coram do you?

Re: electric bill?

What about the portable AC's that you don't need to put in a window? I know target had them a few weeks ago on sale ( I think $400) Its alot of money but it will probably save you lots of $$$ in the long run.

Re: electric bill?

one month in the summer last year we had a $500 bill, then it went back to normal. I think your next bill will be smaller.
