Elder attorney recs
I am in need of an elder attorney that specializes in obtaining medicaid for long term care. The short story is that I am the care taker for my Grandmother who is currently in rehab because she fell and fractured her hip. Unfortunately since the fall her dementia has become much much worse than it was. The doctors say this is very common due to the trauma but we are unsure if she will ever return to her previous mental state. If she does not than she would have to be placed into a secure facility that deals with dementia patients which she can't afford.
If anyone has any recommendations for an elder care attorney that specializes in these situations I would greatly appreciate it. I would hate to just pick a name out of the phone book. TIA

We have used them in the past, and they have been great to work with. We are also currently using them for my mom's medicaid application for her long term care. Very well organized, timely response to e-mails and phone calls and easy to work with.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Brian Andrew Tully in Huntington. 631-424-2800. We used him for estate planning but he also specializes in Elder Care.

Yes it is overwhelming, but so worth it in the long run.
If you haven't been through applying for Medicaid before, it is worse than having a colonoscopy.
They request the following documention going back 5 years:
1) Bank Statements. Checking savings. You will need to go to the bank and request this. There can be a fee for this.
2) Retirement plans, 401k, documentation
3) Tax returns for 5 years
The list goes on and on and it will be very overwhelming in the beginning. But once the attorneys have all the information, they take it from there. All worth it! It probably won't be cheap either, but if she has any kind of money she will hopefully be able to keep it!

I don't have another recommendation for an attorney, but I thought I would share with you a site that I found extremely helpful.
