Egg retrieval questions
I had my second sonogram today and it appears I will be having my ER on Friday.
I have 8 follies ranging in size from 12 - 18 as of this morning.
Questions: 1. How long does ER take? 2. I am NOT having anesthesia (no $$ left). Can I take a painkiller or muscle relaxer before? Will it help at all? From what I have heard, its not unbearable, just uncomfortable. 3. What can I expect afterwards? Will I be bleeding? Crampy? Feeling ill?
Thanks in advance! Any other thoughts or advice are GREATLY appreciated!

Re: Egg retrieval questions
1. How long does ER take? I think mine was about 20-30 minutes
2. I am NOT having anesthesia (no $$ left). Can I take a painkiller or muscle relaxer before? Will it help at all? From what I have heard, its not unbearable, just uncomfortable. I'm not really sure b/c I had the anesthesia but I would definately ask the doctor about this. Maybe he can prescribe you something to ease the discomfort.
3. What can I expect afterwards? Will I be bleeding? Crampy? Feeling ill? I didnt bleed but I was very crampy afterwards for a few days.
I wish you all the best of luck!!

Re: Egg retrieval questions
The amount of time the ER takes is probably dependant upon how many follies you have. I had 27 and I think it took about 45 minutes.
I went to sleep, so I can't tell you about pain meds, but I would imagine you should take Advil beforehand.
I was crampy and sore for a few days afterwards, but no bleeding.
Good luck to you!

Brave girl!
How much are they proposing charging you for the Anesthesia? I heard under $1000 (about $750 OOP).
From start to finish, it should take 10-15 mins (including time for your legs to go up in stirrups, ect.)
I imagine it's bearable awake... but it's got to be the most uncomfortable thing yet due to the way they do it.
Be careful taking ibuprofen or a NSAID due to the risk of bleeding.
Please do FM me if you end up getting it without sedation. I'm curious as to what the experience would be like.

Re: Egg retrieval questions
They charge $550 and we are just tapped out. I know that its offered but that people do opt to NOT have it. Unfortunately for me, There is no way to come up with the money. From what I hear, its uncomfortable, but not unbearable. I'm going to talk to my RE about taking a muscle relaxer beforehand. Good point about the Motrin... so maybe Tylenol.
So I guess no one here has tried without anesthesia???? Yikes! Now I am really scared!

Re: Egg retrieval questions
I have my ER tomorrow!
I am getting anesthesia but can answer your other questions when I get home.
Our nurse said to take only tylenol or extra strength tylenol (avoid advil, aleve...)

Re: Egg retrieval questions
Did you have the ER today? How was it? I hope everything went well.
I had mine Thursday morning. They got 14 follicles and 9 fertilized.
I was crampy and tired all day, even though I was discharged around 11:45am. I felt better today. How are you doing?

Good luck!
Had my retrieval today, and it wasn't bad at all. I didn't even have to take the tylenol they recommended. I had anesthesia so I can't tell you about the pain during, but after is very bearable. I have a slight ache that feels like ovulation pain.
My transfer will either be Monday or Wednesday if it is bumped to a 5-day transfer.
