Re: Egg Nog?

In the dairy section of the supermarket you can find it made without the alcohol. I'm sure that is fine.

Re: Egg Nog?

From Baby Center:

That depends: Is it commercially prepared (i.e., the kind sold in a carton at the grocery store) or is it homemade? And if it is homemade, is it made with raw eggs or cooked eggs? Stay away from eggnog — and anything else, such as holiday cookie batter — that contains raw eggs, as homemade eggnog often does.

Raw eggs are a no-no during pregnancy, because they sometimes carry germs such as salmonella. Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause food poisoning, and in very rare cases, be fatal. Contracting salmonella during pregnancy rarely harms your baby directly, but the high fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration that accompany a bad case of food poisoning could cause preterm labor or miscarriage.

Commercially manufactured eggnog, on the other hand, is made with pasteurized eggs and has not been linked with salmonella infections, says the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). There are also many recipes for making eggnog at home that use cooked eggs, and these are safe. Just be sure you know what's in the eggnog before you drink it.

Be especially cautious at parties, where eggnog is often spiked with liquor. Drinking alcohol during pregnancy isn't a good idea because no one knows exactly how much — or how little — can harm a developing baby. If you had a cup of eggnog before knowing you were pregnant, though, don't panic. The chance that you've harmed your baby is very small.

As an alternative to eggnog, you might consider "soy nog," which doesn't contain eggs or any other dairy products. It's also lower in calories and fat than traditional eggnog. You can find it during the winter holidays in most large grocery stores and at specialty health food stores

Re: Egg Nog?

I don't know if it would quite hit the spot for you, but they also make vegan egg nog, which is totally fine to have. It has all the spices in regular egg nog, but no animal products at all (no dairy, no egg).

Re: Egg Nog?

I am a big advocate of anything and everything in moderation - but egg nog is raw eggs .............Normally I figure the obscene amoun of alcohol my sister puts in there would kill any kind of bacteria !! ........but I'd stay away this year.
