EBF moms and solid foods
My LO will be starting solids in a couple of weeks when she turns 6 months old. I am contemplating skipping grains (rice, barley, and oatmeal), but if I don't ... I'm assuming I have to mix it with BM?? To me that sounds really annoying to have to pump for just this purpose (I don't pump otherwise - LO doesn't take a bottle, which is a whole other story! ) . Is that what you all do? Pump? Or am I missing some other alternative?

I BF and my dr said I can mix the rice/oatmeal into puréed fruits or veggies. That's what I've been doing for the past month and it seems to be working, although she does get kinda constipated sometimes (not sure if that happens with the grains mixed into milk also). When that happens I drop the grains for a day or do and just give her puréed fruits like prunes or pears.

Re: EBF moms and solid foods
I stressed about the same thing before starting DD on solids. I hadn't pumped in forever!
I did end up pumping a little bit and using some of my frozen stash (that wasn't being used anyway) for the first week or two. I mixed a little in her oatmeal and used it to thin bananas and avocado when I first gave them. After that, I always just used water to make her oatmeal and thin foods out. Much easier, it didn't make me crazy when she barely ate and it went in the trash, and she wasn't nursing any less anyway. I wouldn't stress about it since it's so little either way.

Re: EBF moms and solid foods
We completely skipped baby foods. I let them take the lead. I started at 6-7 months old with all 3 of my kids, giving them soft table foods. I never measured anything. Always nurse before solids since breastmilk is the most important thing until 12 months.

Water is fine...or I also used the watery veggies like carrots!

Re: EBF moms and solid foods
I skipped rice and barley and went straight to oatmeal. Even though I hadn't pumped in months I would pump every couple of days and mix an ounce or so in with a fruit. I have just skipped the BM altogether and sometimes to thin it out would just use a couple drops of water.

With my 1st I used to use BM or water, but with this little guy I started mixing his cereal with his purees or water. I don't have a big freezer stash, so I don't want to use it for anything other than bottles.

I used a little water and mixed it with apple sauce.
