DS woke up with a deep cough and he's hitting his head

He just woke up at 12am with a cough. When I went to pick him up and hold him I noticed he kept smacking the side of his head with his hand. After I put him back down to bed he's still sort of awake (he likes to babble to himself to fall asleep sometimes) and he's whining (which he usually does) but he also keeps screeching...like a high pitch screech. I noticed he was doing this throughout the day today too, but at the time I thought nothing of it. It is unusual for him though.

Anyone know what these symptoms could be? It could just be coincidence that he's smacking his head, but I'm just worried it could be an ear infection. Not sure about the cough though....

And, when your DC wakes up with a cough what do you do for them? Anything I can give him or do to try to clear it up til the morning when I can get him to the Ped?

My DS babbles and makes high pitch noices alot too. How old is he? My DS also rubs the side of his head or his ears when he is getting tired (although it looks sometimes like he is hitting himself in the head ).

I would take him to the Dr to have his ears checked

Took him this morning to see the Ped. His ears are clear and she's saying she thinks its teething.

Tonight his cough got worse. Everytime he lays down he's coughing. Its a congested sounding cough and very flemmy. He's also sneezing on and off. I'm not so sure I'm in agreement with his Ped on this one....

I would def elevate him when he sleeps.

prop him when he sleeps or sleep him in his carseat (if you are still using an infant seat). i found that to be very helpful in DS having a good nite sleep when he was coughing.
