Drs. Not letting you go past a certain time
Ok I understand their rationalizing and why its not safe to go past 42 weeks but who is the one that makes these rules? Now my dr doesn't wait passed 41. Is it the hospitals, insurance companies or doctors? neither tht baby our I are distressed and dr says my fluid looks good still, I just wish they would give me that one extra week instead I'm scheduled for csection on friday at 41 weeks (actually sunday is 41 but I was told they dont schedule cs on weekends) I think this is all bs. I can feel my body getting ready and I know it will happen soon but not sure by tomorrow. I feel like in a race against time. I can totally understand if there was an issue but in my case dr doesnt see anything wrong except the time factor. I guess this is more of a vent but I would like to know who makes that rule.

Doctors who want to schedule every minute of their lives and are petrified of possible malpractice suits are petrified.
I wanted a VBAC with #2. I went to a large practice. Two of my OBs were comfortable with letting me get to almost 42 weeks. #3 told me I had to schedule a c-section at 39 weeks.  I told him no - it's my body and I can do that. He then said "well I guess we can let you go to 40 weeks." Ummm NO. Many women don't go into labor by 40 weeks. I ended that visit fast.
I spoke with my OB at my 39 and 40 week appointments. They both agreed that I would be monitored every few days to make sure baby was okay and of course I knew to pay attention to movements.
I did schedule a c-section for 3/16 when I would be 10 days past due. That was MY choice. I was just done and didn't want to wait to 42 weeks.
Well my DD probably knew this because I went into labor at 2am on 3/15 and had her 15 hours later with nothing more than an epi AND I only pushed for 29 minutes which I'm told is great for a first trial of labor.
Point being if you want to wait, speak up! Tell your OB. Ask him why he's so set on 41 weeks. A few days can make a huge difference. Come to an agreement together. This is your body and your baby, not his.

I would speak up if you really arn't comfortable about this.
Yes, there *can* be some issues with post-term babies, i.e. they grow too big, higher risk for meconium aspiration, etc.
However I have a feeling I'm going to be a late one too- my mom went 3 weeks past her due date with both my brother and I and we were perfectly fine and good size!
As long as the baby is in a good position(like they arn't breech or anything) and the baby doesn't seem to be in any distress I would speak up if you want to wait another week.
