What is the time frame for letting people

i.e., family and friends come over to see the baby? I remember an Aunt of mine didn't let anyone come over for the first 6 weeks. Back then, I thought this was very strange and then it was explained to me that it's bc they are so susceptible to virus and sickness at that time.

Is there any medical truth to this?

Re: What is the time frame for letting people

Most immediate family was coming over immediatly.
I was pretty laid back with pple coming.
Pple with kids new not to let their kids go by the baby
Most of them were respectful and didn't ask to hold the baby or anything. If they did they washed their hands.

I just didn't want everyone in his face all at once. Most of the time he was sleeping and I kept him in the bassinet. Pple just came to take a quick look

With the next one I'll be the same way.

See, I am in due in November and I'm just anal about coodies in general. I kinda mentioned to my mom, about keeping people at bay because its peak flu season, and she was like umm ok sort of. I'd want little kids away for the first couple of weeks, but I don't know how to say it without sounding psycho. My friend's daughter got really sick after her toddler cousins visited her, so I'm biased. Chat Icon

Immediate family, even those with kids came right away...even though DD was a January baby and I was paranoid about sickness- how do you tell your babies cousins they cant come?? So they came, washed their hands and kept their faces away from hers.
It was fine!
With this baby due in June, im more lax.

It will be hard to not have family over right away, but they will all understand that they need to wash their hands before holding the baby and if they don't feel great they will avoid visiting.

Pediatrician informed us that if the baby gets a fever within the first 8 weeks, the baby will automatically be hospitalized so we will let everyone know that in advance.

yes - and a spinal tap Chat Icon that's enough for me to have people stay away.

If kids are around, I will only let them touch their feet with socks on.
