Driving or taking the train to Florida / Disney
Has anyone ever taken the train? Is it better/less expensive?

Re: Driving or taking the train to Florida / Disney
I haven't taken the train but I once had to take a train from Atlanta - it was hellacious - I just felt trapped.
There is no way I would want to be trapped on a train for a full day ever again. I would go batty. I would never drive to Florida either, but at least you can go as you please, stop where you want, etc.
And Amtrak is not inexpensive so I am sure it would be comparable to an airline ticket.

My friend takes the train because she hates flying. Her ex-DH did it once and said "never again" He said he would much rather drive. Ghee the choice, I would rather drive too.

We took the train one year and hated it. I felt trapped and it smelled bad. We'll be driving next time we go down.

The auto-train is expensive and you have to drive to VA to get on it... I have done NY to Miami once and NY to Kissimmee once (I will never do it again)... I can not imagine doing it with a kid...

a friend drove halfway, got her car onto an amtrak and arrived in Florida then drove around disney with her own car. she said her boys loved being on the train part and having their own car was great. i can't remember where she drove to board amtrak, might have been DC.

When I was a kid we did the Amtrak from VAnwith our car. I HATED it. We didn't get a sleeper car because it was almost as expensive as flying, the train was filled with college-aged spring breakers who were up all night, so there was no sleeping and from what I remember, it took hours for the car to come off the train once we got to FL, like 3-5 hrs before we got our car. My parents decided never to do it again, the hassle just wasn't worth the cost savings. Plus I don't thnk the likes having to listen to me b!tch ad complain for 18 hrs :)

My cousin takes the train. She lives in Miami and drives to the train( not sure where) then drives up to ny. She does this bc she's by herself with 4 kids so I thinks it breaks it up for her. But I don't think I would try it. I heard it takes a lot longer and is confining. But you have to choose what works for your family.

I have driven twice to fl. Once when dd was 5 months and another when dd was 3 and DS was 6 months and that time the both ended up getting the stomach virus you would think after that we would never do it again but we are in October. It honestly isn't that bad. We leave at 11 at night and drive straight through. This year we aren't leaving till 4 am so we shall see how that works out.
