Yes, it's safe to drink while you are fertile or in the 2WW. Some people choose not to drink in the 2WW but I do. After a few months of trying, I decided I needed to live my life as normal until I get my BFP. I figure as long as I am not drinking excessively, I'm ok. You have to do whatever you are comfortable with. Good luck and have fun! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Drinking while trying??

I do. If your were pregnant, the baby doesn't share a blood line until about 6 weeks so nothing would happen. Obviously, I wouldn't drink once I got a BFP eventhough it was less than 6 weeks.

Re: Drinking while trying??

While all of the above posts are true - I am going to offer a little advice that my Dr. gave me when I told him we were TTC, which is that you should try to cut down your drinking IF you are a regular drinker. At the time I told him that I was drinking a glass of wine with my dinner on a pretty regular basis, and while I don't go out and get "sloshed" every weekend, I did enjoy a drink or two whenever DH and I were out and about. I have since cut drinking out during the week, and I really limit myself on the weekends - unless it is a special occasion in which case I allow myself a couple of weak drinks.

In the beginning I went about my life as usual, now almost 1 year later of TTC, I am doing everything in my power to create a healthy environment for a LO to grow.

Enjoy yourself, but my advice would be to keep it to a minimum.

I think it's fine to drink up until you get a BFP .. I believe you don't share a blood stream until 6 weeks anyway.

Re: Drinking while trying??

i stopped drinking, but that is because of another reason.

if i wasn't doing what i'm doing that i need to stop drinking, i would certainly be drinking until i get that BFP

Re: Drinking while trying??

I drank more than one glass of wine last night and am in the TWW.

When I got a BFP earlier this year I told the doctor that I had a few drinks before I knew I was PG and he said he was nothing to worry about.

Re: Drinking while trying??

Do you know how many babies were concieved on alcohol? I say drink up! not to get drunk...but I think a little something to take the edge off when ur stressed could even help the TTC process...I mean we've seen how many girls on here have gotten there BFP's when they stopped obsessing over what they could or couldn't have or do.

I have decided to stop obsessing and testing all the time....I'm just going to enjoy my life while I still have one...because once theres a bun in the oven...and then a LO....life will deff change. so until then WE DRINK!

P.S... i was preggo...and I followed everything i was told...no coffee...barely any chocolate...I obsessed over the soft cheese and deli meat thing...eating what or where others were eating became a challenge...and I STILL lost the baby...meanwhile there are heroin addicts who go on to have healthy babies...it just goes to show you...no matter how much control you TRY to take...we are ultimately not in control.

And after a year and a half of TTC'ing, my RE has said for me to continue living my life as I have, not getting trashed on regular basis, but ok to enjoy a few drinks every once in a while.
As another poster said.. we TRY to control this whole process, but it's out of our hands no matter what 'rules' we may follow!

I say each person should listen to their own dr's advice and not what gets posted on random message boards Chat Icon
