Drinking before the glucose test
If anyone knows quickly, I am going for my glucose test (1 hour) today at 7 am. I am so thirsty. Can I have some water before I go? Thanks,
ETS: I couldn't resist. I had some water...NOt too much! Thanks

negative, I was told nothing not even water after drinking that you have to fast once you drink the drink, you could have had water and light breakfast before. hopefully it didnt matter and you passed but if not tell them you drank water after drinking the glucose tolerance drink.

you don't have to fast for the one hour test, only the three hour test. (fasting for the one hour test is recommended by some doctors/labs, but not required, as in the case of the three hour glucose test).
drinking water is fine - she could have even had something to eat if she was starving!

the nurse yelled at me when i walked in with a bottle of water. she told me i couldn't drink or eat ANYTHING beforehand, even though it wasn't a fasting test

so weird... i guess every lab is different, but why would water make a difference, since they are drawing blood? unless they do a urine test too... i am new to this only going by what my lab said

Re: Drinking before the glucose test
I drank water beforehand. I also ate all day (including a little ice cream ). My apt wasn't until 5pm. You CANNOT drink ANYTHING even water AFTER you drink the drink or you have to start again. I didn't know that and had just taken a sip of water and luckily she caught me in time and I spit it out in the bathroom .

Re: Drinking before the glucose test
you can eat before right up to the minute before drinking the test but you cannot drink or eat ANYTHING after you drink it- it is a fast- what the drink is to see how your body breaks down sugar without anything in your body for an hour, its a glucose tolerance test. and its really hard not to- those drinks taste terrible.

Re: Drinking before the glucose test
Thanks everyone. I took the test today and honestly it wasn't so bad. I felt a little off from it all day though. The lab tech asked me if I ate anything before and I told her I drank a cup of water and she said water was fine but I couldn't eat anything.
