Donating Baked Goods

I'm a baker. My mom and I are trying to get into doing this as a side job, but we're finding it hard to entice clients without photos of previous work. So, the past few weeks we've been working hard to put together delicious and adorable baked treats. But, my waistline is protesting. I have eaten so many cookies and cupcakes and whatnot that I feel like I'm going to explode. My family members and co-workers are feeling it, too! lol! Anyway, we were wondering if there was any place we could donate our baked goods to. We do a lot of children's themed cakes and we'd love to donate them to a children's hospital or something, but we don't really know where to start! I've also taken care of arranging food donations for leftover food from meetings at work and it's not easy, surprisingly! The companies that do accept donations often will not come pick up the food and my company will not pay to have the food delivered and it just is harder than I think it SHOULD be. But anyway, I digress. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated! Chat Icon

I would try the Ronald McDonald House. I've donated baked goods there in the past. They have lots of rules and regulations and all that but I'm pretty sure they accepted home baked items.

Re: Donating Baked Goods

I am thinking maybe some social service agencies that deal with children, perhaps school-based settings, something like UCP.

I wonder though if they have dietary rule restrictions on what they would accept though.

You could also look into places like this for adults..........day programs and such.

Most of these places are non-profit and many of the clients are low income so things like this would be a treat.

You could give them to neighbors or friends. I am sure you have someone close to you who would want them.

Re: Donating Baked Goods

When my grandfather was in hospice, they had all kinds of donated baked goods in the kitchen area all the time. It was really nice. Especially for people like me who tend to eat their feelings.

It was Hospice Care Network, at 70 Pinelawn Road, Melville, NY 11747-3106
(631) 773-6706

It's at the corner of the LIE South Service Road and Pinelawn Rd. It's in the same senior complex where Brandywine Assisted Living is.

Re: Donating Baked Goods

Do you have children? Or friends with kids that go to school?? Maybe they can have a morning bake sale... or just put the food in the teacher's lounge? I teach high school, and always bring our left over baked goods to my kids... it's gone in a blink of an eye!! :)

Re: Donating Baked Goods

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I'm going to keep looking into them! I've been bringing things into work for weeks. And they just started a Biggest Loser program here at the office and people think I'm the devil. I have no kids and no close friends with school age children (just babies!) though I have donated to the school where my sister works in the after school program. I really like the idea of the hospice and nursing homes- there's a few in my area that I'm going to try! Thanks again for all the suggestions! Chat Icon
