I used to have a Lhasa Apso and my parents have another Lhasa now. They don't shed and neither ever smelled.

You are right that Lhasas don’t really shed. I grew up with one. But they smell. And grooming for them is a pain.

Pugs (my mom’s dog) shed, but they don’t really smell. I’ll take shedding over smelling any day.

Get a cat. That’s my advice Chat Icon

Hmm, that’s a good point. They were groomed every 4 weeks in the summer and every 6 weeks in the winter.

I miss my adorable little nuggetface so much Chat Icon

I've had cats as well. Depending on the breed, a cat sheds so much worse than a dog, and with the litterbox in the house, the smell is much worse than a dog.

Fish don't shed... Chat Icon

I agree with you on the fish, but sometimes the tank can have a certain smell to it. Yes, literboxes can stink, but the cats don’t actually smell. The shedding, eh. Just wear the right color clothing and all will be OK Chat Icon

I was going to say- maybe get a cat instead?
My cat has no smell at all to her body. I am reading this thread about how these dogs stink so bad, and I am amazed because I have only owned cats and they never have a body odor at all.
Yes, the liter box can stink but that's only when it needs to be cleaned. Keep up with the scooping and there really is no smell.
My cat sheds, but it's manageable.
I feel like all animals shed in one way or another.
Heck, humans shed. You should see what my bathroom floor and sink look like after I've done my hair!

My mini schnauzer doesn't shed, but she can get stinky. Grooming is pricey- about $50 every visit, we go about 4 times a year, also if you travel a lot boarding a dog is very pricey. I bought my dog when I was single and had a different lifestyle, now being married with 2 small children I would not be so eager to get a dog.

Re: Dogs who don't shed or smell?

There are so many reasons a dog smells

1. Skin allergies
2. If they smell cheesy, it’s usually because they vomited
3. If they smell fishy, it’s probably their anal glands
4. They roll around in dead stuff in the yard or even just being outside - they smell of “dog”
5. You would stink too if you didn’t bathe for over a month lol

Once you get and love a dog, their stink doesn’t bother you as much as you would think.

I have 2 Shedding dogs. Min pin and Rottweiler. I bathe them once a month and they begin to get stinky at about week 3. The min pin has bad breath (he’s 12) and the rottie gets stinky face from the bones she eats.
My house does not smell. I am not nose blind - my sister who complains every time someone’s house stinks of dog (she’s also allergic) and she is always complimenting me on the fact that my house doesn’t smell and my dogs are so clean.

If you’re the type of person that’s gonna get grossed out because your dog smells like outside after he’s been out there, it may not be the right time to get one.

We had a Westie growing up. He never shed. He only smelled when he would get dirty in the mud or rain etc. I think all dogs can smell bad if they aren’t cleaned, bathed and teeth brushed regularly. just like people. Chat Icon

I have a toy poodle. He doesn't shed at all. He didn't smell for most of his life, but he's 17 now and has been "old man" stinky for a year or 2. I think it's his teeth Chat Icon
