Does your home have a "theme"?

How do you choose a decor?
When we move into our new house I want things to match. Right now our apartment is so mish-mosh as far as decorations.

The house has lots of wood, is that a country look?

I am SO bad at interior decorating. I watch those shows on HDtv in awe of how they come up with ideas.

Re: Does your home have a "theme"?

I was looking at this site.
Its from that show Design on a Dime.
Each room will cost $1000 or less and they have nice ideas. Unfortunately, we cant be on the show because its for homes in the LA area.

We are going to be using our old furniture for a looooong time Chat Icon But when the time comes that I can re-do the rooms, I wanted to know how to choose a theme.

Maybe DH will be into building things. As it is I wanted to buy a dog house and he got all mad and demanded he build one himself.

Our theme is "Dead Broke From Buying the D@mn House So Anything Goes."

Just kidding- in general, we have a lot of Pier 1 furniture, but haven't gone too heavily into a real ethnic/Middle Eastern/Asian look (which a lot of Pier 1's accessories are). The whole house is pretty casual- we don't have a formal DR and then our LR is casual. Then we have a room we call the "study", but it's just a room that's nicer and more comfy than a typical home office.

Re: Does your home have a "theme"?

No theme... I like pretty modern stuff but it also has to be "livable" I cant worry about furniture every second with a 2 1/2 year old climbing on everything.
I kind of stick to neutral colors and everything flows from one room to the next. Alot of people dont like that but I doChat Icon

Hubby and I both LOVE the country-cottage look so that's what we aim for with most of our rooms...

Re: Does your home have a "theme"?

I wish I had some pics. When I moved into my house it was a wallpapered country nightmare. There is stained wood wainscotting all throughout the 1st floor. We ripped down all the wallpaper and did Venetian Plaster which is an awesome technique. It looks kind of like a plaster wall, very eclectic. So even though we have the wainscotting which is traditionally country, we made it look eclectic. I also have a paper bag wall which everyone loves.

Re: Does your home have a "theme"?

Definitely don't have a theme - I don't care for a matchy-matchy look. I have very eclectic taste and that is definitely reflected in how our apartment is decorated.

Just charging the batteries for my camera! I will. It is SUPER easy and looks great. You could even color or tint it, I didn't but I think that would look cool.

Re: Does your home have a "theme"?

That wall sounds awesome!

We have a themed downstairs-the family room and my husbands office are all kinda nautical since we were (he still is) both Naval officers and have a lot of crud that reeks Navy. Upstairs is has warmers tones and is more generic 'pottery barn' with a lot of family art and stuff.

I try and make the whole house keep the theme of 'clean', tough work though!

Our home is country, antique and primitive style. Our furniture is from Broyhill but we have many antique odd furniture too. My landscape has a country cottage theme.

It's the newlywed no need to have furniture theme... Chat Icon

We just have things we like. Pictures of us and our friends having fun all over the house, a few lava lamps and candles, the office is the hanging out video game computer fun room, the master bedroom is just cozy and the guest room is set up like a regular room. Very inviting. The kitchen is just a regular kitchen with black appliances.

No theme. Just things we like Chat Icon
