Does your gate open in or out?
Does the gate to your yard open into the backyard, or does it open out into your front yard?

I think this is the way its "supposed" to be, but DH wanted ours the other way - don't know why, so ours opens into the backyard.

I think it also depends on whether or not you have a pool. I was told that if you have a pool, it's code to have the gate open out to the front.

I don't know if there's a right or wrong way, but when we had our fence installed it was recommended to open in. Otherwise, all the hardware would be on the front of the gate.

This! I totally forgot about the pool thing. We just had a fence company give us an estimate and he said door in if no pool, door out if you have or plan on getting a pool.

Thanks ladies! We don't have/aren't planning on getting a pool. The fence guy drew it up on paper as opening into the front yard and I had to request it the other way. TY!

We don't have a pool, but I built my gates opening into the backyard to hide the hinges, and to keep our dog from putting too much pressure on the latch, or getting out if it wasn't closed all the way.

The one near the pool opens to the front and the one not opens to the back. Not sure why though.
