Anyone have any experience with gates that are wide?

We have this summer gate between the playroom and kitchen, it's about a 7ft opening (may be a little more than 7 feet)

This looks great, but I wonder how it is, if a baby pulls up on it? Is it sturdy? Can the sides be different lengths, like can I have it 1' long then gate (I think approx 3') then 3' ?

We have this in our entry to the living room which is about 8 feet wide
ETA you can add extensions to make it longer or shorter Image Attachment(s):

this gate is fabulous. it is mounted into the wall and you can add more pieces to it.
we had it when we needed to keep the dog out of the kids area. and it came in very useful during playdates when parents didnt want their kids on the steps.
we no longer use it, but it was a fantastic gate. held up great with kids, pulling up, crashing into it, shaking it etc.

I believe it's made by Regalo...the Extra Tall and Wide gate.

We have the gate that MrsRbk posted as a "pen" for DS and we love it.
For your purpose - it's very sturdy. We have it attached to another gate right now and DS has figured out how to push it (but, you'd have it mounted so it wouldn't be an issue).

Re: help me find a gate for an open kitchen
So I researched the reviews for summer infant gate:
we needed an extra wide gate - one that fits an 8 foot opening... However, when we got it, we couldn't get it to fit. Because our area is 8 feet, we are stuck between using only 2 panels or using all three. We can seem to condense it enough to use all three panels and we have about 6 extra inches to cover to use just two. Anyway, we got it up finally, but it just buckles and is crooked and pulling out of the wall.
This sound right to those that have it? Our opening is 8 feet too, and I'm worried about this happening.

We had that gate and my kids had it down in about 3 days. POS! I do have two toddler boys
