Does this sound odd (water bill related)
So when we moved I called to have the water put in our name. 4 months later never got a bill. So I called. Winds up they forgot to set it up in our name and we had a balance of 53 dollars plus a 10 dollar balance that the previous owners were responsible (I told them I would pay that - not worth headache for 10 dollars)
So they apologize and said they will send me the bill, with a handwritten note that says the balance must be paid to the town reciever of taxes

Could they have put a lien on your house b/c you (or the old owners) owed them $? Could that be why? Doesn't something happen when you don't pay bills or taxes, I am thinking it's called a lien?
So not sure...just know I have heard of something about if you don't pay your taxes what can happen. Not sure if it's the same for the water bill but if you have town water, maybe?

I understand what this previous poster is saying, but it does seem odd to me. I would think they would turn your water off before they went through all the paperwork and trouble of putting some kind of lein or something on your house. I don't have any real information on this topic but the way you described it - something sounds fishy!

That's what I mean, I know when we closed there were no liens, and I can't imagine putting a lien over ten dollars. I don't know why they wouldn't just sent me a bill, now I have to go the town and pay this I guess, the whole thing is just odd
