I dont have any personal experience yet, but Im pretty sure that I read that the baby does not have to drop.

nope not at all.

i did drop apparently with my first (my measurements shrank drastically between week 37 and 38 and i lost a couple pounds), but no one could tell from looking at me! i gave birth less than a week later.

Re: Does the baby HAVE to "drop"?

My SIL's sister just had a baby. The baby NEVER dropped but she was low on fluid. They tried to induce her but she ended up having a c-section.

I think it has to drop into your pelvis in order to get out.....maybe I don't understand the question tho....

They eventually have to get to the exit if they plan on having a v-birth but they can wait to drop until birth.

I was high until I went into labor with my 2nd baby. I read that 2nd pregnancies often don't drop until the end.

I never noticed that the baby dropped and delivered naturally.

I heard that with first babies dropping in less likely than in subsequent babies

I think it is the other way around, First babies usually drop but after that it is usually in labor that the baby drops. Chat Icon
