Does it make sense for me to use BJ Natura Paint?
Hi,
We just bought our 1st home and are expecting our 1st child in October.
Unfortunately, with the economy being what it is and a lack of job security, we are trying to keep our expenses down, especially since this baby will need lots of things.
We are painting 2 rooms this week, one of which will be the baby's room. The Natura paint is more expensive than regular Benjamin Moore paint but I want to use this for the baby's room. However, for the 2nd room, my DH thinks we should just use regular paint.
Does it make sense to just paint baby's room with Natura and the other one with regular paint? Or is it pointless since he'll likely breathe in VOC's from the other room?
WWYD?
TIA!

There is a HUGE difference in smell. We just painted with Natura and there was NO smell, normally we use Regal and the house smells for a few days. If the weather was better I'd tell you to open windows and let it air out but it's pretty hot and humid. It's all about your comfort level. For the $10 more a gallon I'd just bite the bullet and do the Natura. Figure 1 gallon each room at $50 a gallon and you have $100 job--done for a few years...
BTW Check the Pennysaver and online for coupons. We got $5 off each gallon

Re: Does it make sense for me to use BJ Natura Paint?
I had our entire house painted with zero VOC paint. For me, the extra money was worth it considering DC would be enclosed in the rooms/house with the off-gassing quite a bit. Paint off-gasses for up to a year, so I tried to keep as much VOC out of the house as possible. I'm all for cutting down expenses, but I found other areas that I could trim from, and spent the extra money on DC's health (and the health of their planet).
If you can't afford to do both rooms with the Natura paint, definitely do DC's room. DC will be enclosed in there for 12+ hours a day, most likely with the door closed. You want that room as VOC free as possible, since that's where they'll get the most exposure.

We have been using this paint and I completely think it's worth it. I didn't want to breath the VOCs in either and I'm not PG and we don't have kids. It's great. It was worth the money IMO. I would go for it. They say that VOC give off gases for months after you paint even if you don't smell it. GL with your decision.
