Does anyone not wrap Christmas gifts?

I am seriously considering this for the kid's gifts this year. I spend forever cleaning up wrapping paper, cutting toys out of boxes and putting things together on Christmas morning- it takes away from the enjoyment.

I may just have everything open and set up under the tree. Do you think this will take away from the Christmas Morning "experience for them?

I don't think so. I have read on here that MANY parents do this (not wrap).

I will say that I grew up with every toy wrapped. Even the ones from Santa - my mom always left the wrapping paper out for it. So I never knew that it was common not to wrap, but I think it's a great idea.

Re: Does anyone not wrap Christmas gifts?

We wrap some and don't wrap others. Growing up, our stuff was not wrapped.

Re: Does anyone not wrap Christmas gifts?

I think part of the fun of Xmas is the excitement of seeing so many gifts under the tree and then getting to tear into them and being surprised. I personally would've been disappointed as a kid to see a bunch of stuff under the tree unwrapped. When I was little my parents always designated the 26th as "stay in and play day" and we spent the day opening new toys, having my parents put things together, and playing. It was so much fun. I will continue that tradition with my DD too but for us, I like wrapping the gifts. For me it wouldn't feel like Xmas otherwise and really all you're cutting out is the paper mess which is not a big deal IMO. You still have to deal with the boxes and opening and putting toys together anyway. I think it's fun to watch my DD open a gift as opposed to just picking up something unwrapped and looking at it. I don't know, it wouldn't be the same for me if I am being honest.

Re: Does anyone not wrap Christmas gifts?

I grew up where nothing from Santa was wrapped and we loved it. To wake up xmas morning and see tons of toys all over the living room was amazing. My mom told us they came right from Santa's workshop. I will do the same with dd. I will only wrap gifts from DH and I to her from Santa everything will just be placed under the tree.

I have to agree.

I grew up with 6 siblings so there was a lot of paperChat Icon My parents would pull out a large trash bin of trash bag and everything went into the bag as you opened it, so there was very little mess at the end. We did sometimes get into wrapping paper fights - but then the kids would have to clean that up Chat Icon

We also stayed in on the 26th, so not all of the toys were opened at once and as kids got older they could put things together themselves and help the younger kids.

For me the unwrapping is a very big part of christmas. I am not a fan of how wastefull it can be so with larger gifts I odten wrap them in fabric and tie with yarn/ribbon and then I can use that fabric later for a project - but I guess that would only work if you sew Chat Icon

we open all the boxes and untie the toy fasteners, then we put it all back in the boxes and wrap them. there is the fun of unwrapping but no frustration waiting for the toy to come out.

Re: Does anyone not wrap Christmas gifts?

I've heard of this, but really it's not for me-I like the anticipation of unwrapping each present, wondering what it is.

I will say for the last 2 years I have taken everything out of the boxes, put batteries in before I wrap so that Christmas everything is ready to go. Maybe that would help cut the work a bit for you so you are just dealing with paper, not the assembly?

Thats what my mom used to tell us! When I was little, none of our gifts were wrapped.
DH came from a family where every little thing was wrapped (his mom would wrap even stocking gifts like a pack of tic-tac mints).

Its a royal pain in the ***, but I wrap for my kids now.

Growing up everything was wrapped except for our "big present" which was usually unwrapable - like bikes or something.

We do the same. Sometimes I toss the box completely and just wrap the toy. It's lumpy and it isn't always pretty, but it's easier than dealing with an impatient child, lol.

I would not personally do this. Half the fun is guessing and unwrapping.

ITA with with this. Opening gifts in our house takes hours as they are opened only one gift at a time. One person hands them out, one person gets the garbage bag for the wrapping paper (and gets it thrown at them all morning lol) and one person gets a bag for the bows/ribbon

But in my defence... DS does not get the unwrapping and I love the look of opened gifts under the Christmas tree.

Same here. And Santa was so good, all my brothers presents were wrapped in one paper, mine in a different so we could just see our piles and go to town.Chat Icon

We will do the same with DS. I love the anticipation.

Growing up ALL our gifts were wrapped, even stocking gifts.

Last year, we didn't wrap stocking gifts and I didn't wrap clothes.
I hung them and when DS came down he looked like "ummmm wow"..LOL

It was fun watching him unwrap all of his toys.Chat Icon

DD was way to little last year, but, this year she may enjoy ripping paper and causing trouble. LOL

Re: Does anyone not wrap Christmas gifts?

I am going to take stuff out of boxes and remove fasteners. And to cut down on the waste, I will try to use recyceld gift bags for as much stuff as I can.
