Re: does anyone NOT go to nursey or daycare
nope my dd#1 didnt go to nursery, i put her in a separation class two days a wk for an hr and a half each day for a couple of months prior to her starting pre-k....my dd#2 is 2 but i will not be putting her in nursery either....but i will most likely do the separation class (like i did with dd#1) right before dd#2 starts pre-k too since it helped dd#1 with any separation anxiety.....i see nothing wrong with not sending them....they have a verrrrrrry long time of schooling/socialization ahead of them and 3yrs old doesn't necessarily have to be when that starts

Re: does anyone NOT go to nursey or daycare
I didn't send my DD to either PreK or daycare. She is turning 4 on the 19th and just this week I started sending her to Mommy and Me twice a week for two hours a day for separation class, just to have her get use to being on her own a little. Before I had her I was a certified PreK-6 teacher so as far as preschool work is concerned I am "homeschooling" her with that, if you even want to call it that. I also enrolled in her in a 4 week "farm school" class and dance class. I feel like giving her varied experiences at this age are FAR more crucial then her sitting in a school right now, she has YEARS of that ahead of her. Right now it's about learning from experience and discovery IMO.
I don't think either PreK or daycare are absolutely necessary for kids to be successful once they enter elementary school so don't feel bad about your decision. You do what you feel is best.

While you are right that it ultimately your choice, don't be surprised when she has a hard adjustment to k.
I have a friend whose DC goes to half day k on LI and he didn't go to prek and they are having a very hard time adjusting...

My kids are 3 and they dont go school and I still havent decided if they will go to PreK at age 4....I might just send them to K at age 5..... I dont really feel the need for them to go to school for 2 days a week at 2 hrs a day.....

Re: does anyone NOT go to nursey or daycare
DS went to "pre-school" when he was 2 for 3 days a week, 2.5 hours a day. When he turned 3 we moved and he was home with me every day (along with his little sister).
I think it is totally 100% fine to keep kids home as long as they are stimulated enough but my DS (4) is in full-day pre-k now and he is soooo much happier than he was being home with me. DH and I plan on putting DD in a pre-school program when she is 3.5 because we've seen how positive it is for DS.
Having done both, I'd vote for pre-school over nothing, but that's only with my kids and our situation, everyone is different.

I think it really depends a lot on the individual child moreso than whether or not they went to a formal PreK program. Knowing my DD, I think she will be just fine. Of course I won't know until the time comes but I am still content with our decision, I feel this is what is best for her.
I also taught Kindergarten before I had my DD and I had many children who didn't attend any formal PreK and they actually adjusted nicely to full day Kindergarten. Again, I think the personality, age, maturity, etc. of the child plays a large role in how they manage once they enter school. I don't think it's as cut and dry as they went to F/T time PreK or not. KWIM?
