Does anyone know how long methotrexate actually stays in your system?
I have been suffering with what I think is a cold for the past few days and haven't taken anything except cough drops, b/c I didn't think I was allowed to.
I called my GP's office and left a message w/ his assistant. As soon as he heard 'methotrexate' he told her to tell me he can't prescribe me anything and to contact the dr that gave me the shots.
I called there a while ago and the nurse just called me back. She claims it's not in my system anymore, and that anything is safe to take at this point. Not trying to question her knowledge, but if that's true then why hasn't my dr. but me back on my prenatal or metformin or folgard yet? And why for my HSG did they tell me I could only take extra strength tylenol and not motrin?
So now I called back my dr's office and of course their 'phone hours' are over.    I have my dr.s cell phone # and am actually considering calling him, though this probably doesn't qualify as an emergency...
Ugh, should I just try tylenol cold or something? I actually have a z-pack sitting in my closet from a refill I was allowed to get when I was going on vacation... but I don't know if I should take that w/o seeing or at least talking to my dr first. I'm all congested and it's in my chest and it's hard to breathe... I've been resting a lot and drinking tea and fluids, but I don't know what else to do....

I don't know for sure, but I read somewhere that after your first period off of it, the amount lowers considerably.

I don't know the answer... but don't take the antibiotics. If its a cold, then the infection is viral and an antibiotic won't do anything. Don't take it unless you have a confimed bacterial infection.  Feel better!

Thanks Lauren. I had something like this back in March and my dr. gave me a z-pack. It's all in my chest and nose and it's thick and gross (sorry if TMI  ) I just want to start feeling better already...

I remember after I had the metho shot I had asked my doctor about it being in my system and she said that it leaves the system pretty quickly. GP's/Internists are not familiar with metho (they usually only know of it as as a treatment for cancer patients) so that is probably why they were uncomfortable advising you.
If it's a cold or allergies you wouldn't want antibiotics anyway. Take some Tylenol Cold and Sinus

Ok, thanks. I got an info sheet on what I'm allowed to take and what I'm not but I have no clue how long the restrictions last.  Also it was mainly like take tylenol don't take motrin or aspirin based products, etc.... and I have no clue what does or doesn't have aspirin in them.
