Does anyone here have any experience with Bullmastiffs?
This is one of the breeds I've been researching and so far from what I can tell they make a great pet. They're great with children and families and are very docile.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here has had firsthand experience with them.
We have a large yard and good sized home (2000 Sq feet) so I think size will not be an issue.
My husband and I have experience with big breeds (Alaskan Malumutes, an Irish Wolf Hound and other larger mutts) so the size is not a factor.
I was just wondering if anyone could tell me about their experiences with their own BM.
Thanks!

My friend has a BullMastiff. This is the sweetest dog ever, but the paws are bigger than my head Klaus is a pretty mellow dog, although I did not know them when he was a puppy. He drools like mad though. Other than that he is pretty low maintenance for them, and this is on DH's "Dogs I want" list.

This seems to be the sentiment. A woman I am friendly with at work has 2 of them and wants to get another 2 at some point. She offered to have me come home with her at lunch so I could meet her boys and get a better idea. I'm looking forward to meeting them...
Thanks for the feedback!

That is great that a friend at work will let you experience them firsthand!

Re: Does anyone here have any experience with Bullmastiffs?
My friend had one. He was over 110 lbs. Sadly he had seizure problems, and it was very difficult for her to physically handle him (she is single) when he would pass out, etc. He eventually passed away related to the problem (don't know exactly what it was). All I know is he was huge.

My dad has one. Chester is the sweetest dog ever! He is great with my 3 year old brother and just a giant mush. He does however have some health problems. He has hip dysplasia (sp??) and something having to do with his teeth because his tongue constantly is hanging out of his mouth.

My neighbor had one it attacked and nearly killed her. After years of being "the sweetest dog ever". Her face is permanently disfigured because of the incident. I'm sure this can happen with any breed, and isn't to say that these dogs are particularly arrgessive or dangerous, but this story, and the immense size of the dog scare me away from them.

Re: Does anyone here have any experience with Bullmastiffs?
i used to dog-sit for FOUR - count them: FOUR - english mastiffs. not the same as the bull mastiff but similar. they were wonderful animals - not for me, personally, but wonderful. i don't think i could handle having that big of a dog, that much drool and that much hair - they were A LOT to take care of. the dogs i sat for were show dogs and the owner just ADORED them. they were docile, pleasant and protective of the house/owner. not to the point where it was scary or anything - just nice that it shows they really, really care about their owner - and once they formed a bond with me - they treated me that way - it was amazing.
lots of work though - i sat for all four of them and they were about 200+ lbs each

Go to the search engine and type in Bull Mastiff Rescue. It will bring up all the rescue individuals and organizations that can give you a wealth of information. Also, go to Petfinder.com and you can type in your zip code and then Bull Mastiff and it will bring up dogs for adoption.

Thanks! I have done this (for about the last month or so! ). At this point I was looking for people who have had personal interaction with this breed. I've read a ton online but it's nice to get some info from people who I speak to on a fairly regular basis. I feel a bit of a connection to the people on this site and so I just wanted to see what the feedback here would be.
Thanks again!!

No experience but usually the larger they come, the harder they fall!

Re: Does anyone here have any experience with Bullmastiffs?
Did you get that email that went around with a pic of a Mastiff that was larger than a horse? Anyone have that? We tried to figure out if it was real or a fake, but my friend who had one said it was likely real. This dog was huge! Anyone have that pic????

Re: Does anyone here have any experience with Bullmastiffs?
I know this is an old thread, but I have a Bullmastiff, he is 18 months old and the most affectionate, gentle, funny, friendly dog I have ever had the pleasure to meet and/or own. Pix in my album! He makes us so happy, DH and I love him so much. He sleeps with us too which is a sight to see!
