Does anyone here go tanning?
I do not want to get flamed for this question. I do have some questions for those of you who do tan. I never go tanning but am in two weddings in the next two weeks (MOH in one BM in the other) and I want to look my best. I have some questions about the frequency of going and how long the tan lasts.

I tan at the beginning of the summer bc otherwise I would blind the general public with my whiteness...
It all depends on the strength of the tanning bed. In my salon they have the extra-strength tanning capsule... I start with 5 minutes a session 2-3x a week and then go 2x a week for about 7-8 minutes per session until I start hitting the beaches or pool regularly.

I went tanning a few times before a wedding I was in. The salesgirl helped me a lot. I told her I had never been tanning and that I burn easily. She told me which cream to use and set up my tanning schedule for the week. If you go to the same place for all of your tanning sessions you could do something like that.

ive used clinque tanning cream as well as neutragena tanning cream - really like both. the neutragena has a tint when you put it on so you know if its even. ive considered the "mystic tan" spray on tan places too, just bc of the horrible long term effects of tanning booths.

I go tanning as well but I try not to go to much. I only go when I have an affair to go too. If you ask the girl at the counter she will def. help you and tell you what to go in and what lotion to use.
I also use the neutragena tanning cream as well so I have both so I dont feel like I have to go tanning. Everytime I go I kick myself on how bad it is even though I cant stop going.

My SIL owns a tanning salon in Seaford called Sun on the Run. I used to go there all the time. But my skin doesn't like the sun too much.

I have done a "cocktail" at both Beach Bum locations in Plainview and Massapequa.
You go tanning for about 12-15 minutes in a medium strength bed, then do a California Spray Tan on top of it.
I love the result and have actually had people compliment my "color" each time I have done this. I have done it a few times for weddings and have never had a bad result.
I don't like to go tanning a lot, so I only do this when I have a big event to go to. In fact, I may go this weekend!

I would recommend Spray Tan. It is da bomb. I used to go tanning before wnter vacations, at the beginning summer,etc.
As a trial for my wedding, I did a spray tan, and loved it!! It was completely even, a nice shade, no spotchy burn marks or weird lines, and I got the color in one session that it would take weeks for a tanning salon to achieve.
ETA: it is safer for your skin too!

I did it for my wedding and will probably go a couple of times before our upcoming vacation just to get a little color.
I've also done the spray tanning where a person applies it to you. There is a place in Great Neck called Brazil Bronze where I used to go and they are really good. Do it a day or more before the event because it gets darker within the first 12 hours and then lightens up.

Not flaming you but...
I used to go here and there but I won't go again. My friend who is 29 just had a few moles removed they found cancer. They had to remove the skin around it and now she will have huge scars on her shoulders. She never burned and has been tanning for the past 10 years, 1-2x a week. Be careful.

I go for a couple of weeks before summer just to build some color even though I shouldn't be tanning I already had one skin cancer scare you'd think I'd learn my lesson by now.
One doctor told me the beds are actually worse. One tanning bed session is the equivilanent to sitting all day in the sun for more than a day.
However its when you burn thats what makes it worse.

Me too  . I do 9 min 1xs week. In the summer thou I do spend time on the boat so Im not tanning as much. I smoke too , so I guess either way somethings gonna do me in

good to know, thank you! I'm always afraid with self-tanners and spray tans that I will be a strange shade of orange after doing it

I did the California Spray Tan at Beach Bum too. I don't think it is orange. I prefer it over the Mystic Spray Tan.
Never tried the airbrushing there, but if you do, let me know how you like it! Thanks!!!
