Does anyone have central vacuuming?
We moved about 2 months ago and our house has a very old central vacuuming syster. I dont even know if these things still exists - I never even heard of it until we bought our house.
I used it today for the first time and it was so easy. But its not sucking hard enough. It does pick up small stuff, but I'm finding that the dog hair is getting left behind because its not pulling hard enough to get it off the carpet in places.
I looked on the actual unit in the basement and its from Sears but REALLY old. There was nothing to adjust to make it stronger.
I guess I need to find someone to come look at it and maybe tweak it somehow. I dont even know where to look!

Re: Does anyone have central vacuuming?
I have an Electrolux Central Vacuuming system. It came with our house and I was totally against using it because I have my Dyson that I love, however, after using it once, I was hooked. I am obsessed with it. I do use the Dyson on carpet to get a deeper clean, but it is so worth it. I think the central works the best on hardwood floors.

Re: Does anyone have central vacuuming?
I just bought a new house which had an old central vacuum system. The contractor had someone come out to replace the system. I think a new unit cost about $2400. I believe part of this cost might have been to relocate some of the ductwork to make room for the renovations I made.

We had it growing up... I would LOVE to have it. You may have to empty the canister (probably in your basement or garage). I would consider having someone come in and check out the system since you just moved in!

Re: Does anyone have central vacuuming?
Thought about having this while doing my kitchen remodel but decided against it 'cus I heard it's harder to repair if clogged and lugging that hose around can be cumbersome.

It came with the house we bought. I LOVE it. Our previous owners had 5 dogs, ours had massive hair balls in the hose, and unit down stairs. Once i defunked it, it sucked great.

It's pretty easy to do yourself, I would try this first than call someone if its still not working well (that's great that it's sears I would call them and see if someone can come and chk it out). We got one installed when we moved in, couldn't imagine life w/out it I have 3 floors and all hardwood (with the exception of some area rugs) it works awesome!

Thansk! We did empty the canister when we moved in. My whole house is hardwood, except for our living room, where we just had carpets done. So right now its especially convenient for the second floor! I hate lugging the vacuum up the stairs! The LR at least is on the main floor.

I have one, but it's only 3 years old. Thru sell sheets the you can suck through each of your port openings (I need to do this actually), it will pull anything that might be clogging.
