Does anyone ever buy a larger size for top and smaller for bottom for DC?

I'm starting to do this...I know personally I have a longer torso and shorter legs...and Riley measures very tall for her age but I notice pants can be really long on her.

Does anyone end up doing that? I feel so frustrated about the sizing thing!! I'm thinking she fits best in 3T right now for tops and 2T is just right...

and then you go to Children's Place and the sizing is different from everyone else! I even bought some summer tops in 4T...is that crazy?

UGH when does it ever get easier to buy clothes for these kids???Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yup! My dd has long legs but is petite. She is wearing 9 month tops and 18 month pants. The sets never fit. The tops are too big if the pants fit, and if the top fits the pants are too short. I wish they had sizes like us so you know your a med top and 6 bottom, kwim?

DS is the same age exactly, and in 3T pants and 4T shirts. For summer PJs, we did size 4 for the sets, and the pants are OK. Size 4 (not 4T) is still a little large, even on top.

I think he was 38.5" at his last visit.

DS has short legs..He is in 18 month tops now and 12 month bottoms. I can't buy him 2 piece sets because the bottoms are always too long. For the summer, I got him 24 month tops and 18 month shorts.. I put him in a pair of 18 month jeans today and with sneakers on, they are ok. Without, I have to roll them up twice..

That is me..Both my boys need bigger tops for the length. I find the Children's Place sizing is very small as you go up in size. My guys are always a size ahead there.

DS is tall and thin so while he is in a 2T top if I dont put him in a 12-18 pant, they fall off him (technically, if not for the length, waist wise, he could wear 6 month pantsChat Icon The adjustable waist pants are a godsend. 2 pc sets that are hanging in his closet are uselessChat Icon

yeah..for DS he can wear 24mo in shirts but the 24mo in pants are way long or too large in the waist. 18-24mo from old navy are fine. 18mo from carters are getting too short; so i went up to 24mo and they're too big. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Absolutely! DS is average in weight and length in general, but proportionally, much longer on top. This is especially a problem with shorts, since they can't be rolled up. He's be 2 1/2 this summer, and I'm buying 2T and 3T tops, hoping the bigger ones will still be good next year. However, I have to get the shorts in 12 months or 18 months at biggest!

I do the same thing...mostly just to get longer wear out of them. Pants and shorts have to be true to size, but shirts can be a little big without looking silly Chat Icon

DD is in 3T shorts and pants, but I've been buying her mostly 4T shirts and pajamas.

I do. DS finally is wearing size 4 tops and bottoms at age 3 1/2. He wore larger shirts than pants from about 6 months up. DD wears the same size in tops and bottoms 2T, except from the children's place where she wears a larger top than bottom.

Re: Does anyone ever buy a larger size for top and smaller for bottom for DC?

Yup ever since Kaydyn was about 1 1/2 she's been in bigger tops than bottoms. She turned 3 in January and is wearing 3T tops, but most of her pants are 2T (she even has a 24 month pair that fits). She has a few 3T pants but they are really long. The only ones we can put on her are jeans that have an adjustable waist and we just cuff the bottoms.

Yep! DD has been running smaller in pants and larger in tops for awhile now. For summer, she will be in 3T pants/shorts, but 4T tops.

I need to start doing this.
She needs bigger pants because she is tall and all her pants look like floods!
But she is tiny and narrow from the waist up so the shirts swim on her!

Yup, my oldest daughter has been a size up in shirts since maybe around age 2. So normal-size for bottoms but a size up for tops. To go over her little pot belly Chat Icon

I like DS longer on him, don't want his underwear sticking out.
So, I've been getting him 4T shirts for the summer and holding off on bottoms - no pull-ups=growth so they should still fit.
