Does anyone elses mom......
.... say to them, "Oh you won't ever need that, You'll never ever use this, xyz is a waste of money and space, blah blah blah"
I swear, mom is amazing but she looks at the registry and then makes comments about EVERYTHING! She thinks that a swing is ridiculous, that a changing pad cover is stupid, that a "pacifier pod" is just unuseable. I tried to explain that just because they didn't have these things over 27 years ago when her one and only was born (moi), doesn't mean that babies (and moms for that matter) today can't benefit from such luxuries.
Maybe I overdid it with the wipes warmer??

Re: Does anyone elses mom......
I do think some things can be overboard, but some things are necessary. My mom says things too about other people, like my cousin, since I haven't started my registry yet anyways!
BTW - someone told me this about the wipes warmer - aside from the fact they thought it was a waste of money, when you are out, and you have to wipe your baby's bottom, and you don't have your nice warm wipes on you, the baby kinda gets a "shock" because the wipes aren't normall warm!

Re: Does anyone elses mom......
My MIL has a tendency of doing that. I just ignore her.
My mother on the other hand, no matter what it is she says I need it. I think she is just trying to be super helpful though. I don't think she actually believes I need all of it, just trying to avoid confrontation with a hormonal preggo.
ETA - Baby bargains doesn't recommend a wipe warmer. They said they haven't been able to find one worth recommending and seem to be considered a fire hazard

Re: Does anyone elses mom......
I'm TOTALLY on board with the wipes warmer. When my nephew was a newborn and I watched him every day, this was the best thing ever. He loved his nice warm wipes.
ETA: A swing is also the best thing every. Colicky as he was, this was one of the only ways I could get him to sleep!

Re: Does anyone elses mom......
My mom doesn't do it...I think she wants this baby to have everything.
My DH does...every time I mention something he's like "Do we really need that, haven't babies survived without all this stuff for years?"...you should have seen the car seat extravaganza.
Of course, that didin't stop him from registering for a $120 diaper bag.

Well now, why would he want to hold back on fashion?

No my mom wants to spoil the heck out of her first grandchild and my DH and I She's wonderful!
Sorry your mom is doing that to you. By the way, I am totally getting a wipes warmer. I have always felt bad putting cold wiped on a baby's bottom, especially when they wake up

Re: Does anyone elses mom......
There are definately some things she sort of kept saying "Oh don't register for that.......you won't need it for 6 months......."..............but isn't the point of the registry to have what you need for the forst 6 months to a year? I mean she even said NOT to put down diaper creams & tylenol. I decided to because someone may want to get a bunch of little things...........

Re: Does anyone elses mom......
My mom can't navigate the web to examine a registry. Also, she is aware that times change and what was appropriate and safe for a child in the 70s, when she had HER last, may not be so for a child of today.
I am sure other family members and quite possibly friends will not be able to resist the urge to mind their business.
Pregnancy seems to allow the rest of the world to spew unwanted comments.

Oh that would drive me nuts!
Lucky for me, my mom is in the day care industry, so she really has her finger on the pulse.
I heard wipes warmers dry out the wipes, so I didn't register for one.

Re: Does anyone elses mom......
No, but my mom is amazed at all the new gizmos, gadgets and items they have for baby these days. I took her to BRU a couple of times and she couldn't believe all the stuff.
She did say however, that some things haven't really changed all that much.
