Does anyone else have a ridiculous fear of falling while carrying your baby?

I swear it's like an obsession of mine.
I am so freaking paranoid that I am going to trip or something while carrying her.
I cant' tell you how many times I have tripped in the past- while carrying something- and that something goes flying.
Lately I have been thinking about it every time I am walking with her.
All I can say is thank GOD we live in a ranch...I don't think I'd be able to walk up or down a flight of stairs with her...I'd be too petrified!

Am I the only crazy one?

Re: Does anyone else have a ridiculous fear of falling while carrying your baby?

Yes and I have fallen while carrying her. DD#1 was about 8 months old and I fell while carrying her in the daycare parking lot. I held on to her so tight and she never hit the ground. It was so, so scary. Of course I started crying!

No your not crazy! I think about this all the time too. I fell down all our stairs the other day. All I could think was thank god dd was napping, and I wasn't carrying her. I fell hard.

I really hate using my stairs.

I don't think the fear is that ridiculous. i don't let anyone but myself carry him up & down stairs.

Yes - I do. I'm a klutz so it is going to happen eventually.

I'm extra careful though when I hold him.

Re: Does anyone else have a ridiculous fear of falling while carrying your baby?

I have more of a fear of slipping while she is in the bjorn. I put dd1 in the food shopping wagon and carry dd2 in the bjorn and over the summer was so nervous that i would not see a puddle and step in it while wearing flip flops that it would take me forever to food shop!!!

Re: Does anyone else have a ridiculous fear of falling while carrying your baby?

I am totally afraid of it. I have very bad knees and we live in a high ranch. Let's just say I usually have DH carry DS down or I literally take one step at a time.

I'm always afraind my knees will give out on me or I will trip up.

Yes and it's NOT crazy.

Someone on here fell with their DD in her arms and the baby was seriously hurt (she's okay thank GOD but she could just as easily have not been okay).

Yes, I had it with DS and it eventually went away but came raging back as soon as DD was born.

Re: Does anyone else have a ridiculous fear of falling while carrying your baby?

I didn't really have this fear, but two people have fallen while carrying my baby, and one time was a bad fall Chat Icon

My aunt fell while babysitting. She hurt her own knee a little, but my daughter was fine.

DH fell with our daughter down cement stairs. He fell on the last 2 steps, and my daughter fell out of his arms as he hit the ground. Luckily it was cold, and she was wearing one of those puffy coats with a puffy hood. I cringe everytime I think about it. It was almost year ago and I just can't think about it. I was at work. She was ok, but had a terrible terrible bruise on her forehead, and cried for a long time afterwards. I heard her screaming in the background when he called to tell me and my heart broke in a million pieces. We called the dr, and he said to keep an eye on her and if she wasnt throwing up and seemed fully with it, we did not have to bring her in

My cousin's baby broke her leg when somebody fell down a flight of stairs while holding her. I think she was about 7 months at the time.

Re: Does anyone else have a ridiculous fear of falling while carrying your baby?

Well, I am guessing that you do not know my storyChat Icon It was a fear that came true for me BIGTIME and now I have such head trauma issues(fears) that it is rediculousChat Icon
Here is my story(I am copy n pasting from an old post)

When DD#2 was 8 weeks old, I tripped over a fan while carrying her(the fan should NOT have been there) I fell and landed on my hands and knees, on the way down, she flew out of my arms and went head first into her solid wood bedroom door and then down to the floor. She fractured her skull from ear to ear and had 3 subdural hematomas(bleeds in the brain). It was the most horrible experience of my entire life. We spent the next few days in the PICU(pediatric intensive care unit) having catscans every 12-24 hours to track the bleeding in her brain. Waiting to find out if she would be okay, if they would need to put a shunt in her brain or any other brain surgery. All the while knowing that in some way, I did this too her. I did not protect her. Well, as the nuerosurgeon put it, I got my once in a lifetime miracle. She pulled through and is FINE. As for me, I will NEVER be the same, EVER! The Dr. said it best, SHE will never remember it and I will never forget it. I have been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from this. I spent the year that followed waking up with with night sweats, crying in my sleep, my DH finding me alseep on her floor and me having no memory of getting there. I can have a panic attack at the drop of a hat when I hear a loud bang. IT SUCKS! I would not wish the things I felt and the things that I continue to feel, on my worst enemy, and my outcome is a GOOD one.

I fell down a flight of stairs in my house when I was 34 weeks pregnant so now I am terrified of falling again while carrying DS. I have a cat that tends to weave in and out of my feet and I'm scared he'll trip me on the stairs one day.
