Does anyone else follow the West Memphis Three case? UPDATE: THEY ARE FREE!
They could be freed very soon...and maintain their innocence!

Every dang "police officer" that "worked" on this case should have been thrown in jail.

A lot more evidence ties Casey to that murder than ever tied these three to the crime.
The stepfather's DNA is on the lines used to hogtie the kids yet no DNA was found from these 3.
The stepfather was raised on a farm by an accomplished butcher - the mutilation seen on one of the boys would be from someone who knows their way around a knife.
Even Hobbs ex-wife and her family have thought he did it from the start
He physically and sexually abused his kids

Hobbs fled to his parents after the bodies were found to avoid being interviewed - can't believe he was never considered a suspect till after the defamation trial.

I've just been doing some reading on this case - since seeing this thread actually.
In a way it is similar to the CA trial in that there seems to lack physical evidence that he did it, though I haven't read too much, maybe I'm missing something.
So sad if this monster gets away with murder.

I was SHOCKED she was freed and I am stunned they found them innocent (thankfully)... I think Casey Anthony did it... I was on the fence with these three.... I work in the legal field and I never know whats true anymore... Didn't follow their case closely cause I got way too involved with hers....

Forgot to add the stepfaher had the little boys pocketknife on him after the murders. The kid never left home without it and they were surprised it wasn't found with the body.
Others have testified that he told folks he did it
He was seen with the victims the night they went missing
After the DNA link was found they should have brought him in for questioning. Instead a lot of evidence came out when he sued the chick from the Dixie Chicks

I saw that, I think that's when he was convicted of aggravated assault?

I have been following this case since the late 90s and did a ton fo research on it for a law schoo paper on those that were wrongly convicted.
These 3 deserved to be freed long ago. They are very strong men along with their families to stay motivated and doign what it right.

to the innocence project for helping them out

I saw this more recently and was floored by the outcome. So glad they are now free. Hopefully it can be opened as a cold case and the real killer put behind bars.

I learned about the Memphis 3 case when I was avidly supporting Marty Tankleff. Was Marty in your paper? How about Jeff Deskovic (sp.?)? That's another case where someone did a lot of time for a crime he did not commit.
I think that the big difference between the Memphis 3 and Casey Anthony is that there was a coerced confession. At least that is what I remember. The Innocent Project supports videotaping confessions but I believe that there would still be room for all sorts of coercion.
I am so glad to get this news. I did not know about this update until I checked in here on LIF just now!

I don't like that the had to plead guilty on three counts of first-degree murder to be released.
"In order to get released and avoid the death penalty for Echols, the three had to agree to a deal to plead guilty on three counts of first-degree murder in order to be released on time already served. The proceedings took place today at a court in Jonesboro, Ark."
