Does any use their DC's bedroom as their playroom?
We have another area in the house but his bedroom seems to be the most practical. Is a bedroom dangerous to let them play in? We live in a ranch so the bedroom is close to everywhere I would be througout the day and off course I would not leave him in there without keeping a watchful eye. I just need a place that I can gate him in away from the dog if he wants to sit/crawl on the floor and play with his toys.
THe living room is not good bc we have a fireplace.
The den is not good bc it is my "husband"s" tv room and he refuses to take off his shoes and everyone comes in and out of the house in there. So even though I Vacuum all the time I'm sure the rug is filled with germs!
Where does your Dc play if it is not his bedroom?

As a BTDT, ALL of those rooms you mentioned (especially in a ranch) will become the playroom
In all seriousness, my DS has toys in his bedroom, our living room (has a fireplace too....) and his train table is in our dining room

In all seriousness, my DS has toys in his bedroom, our living room (has a fireplace too....) and his train table is in our dining room
I hear ya and we def have toys all over too, but as he is becoming more mobile I need a place that I can leave him and run to the bathroom or cook dinner and just check up on him every few minutes. I also need a place that he can just roll around. If I leave him in the living room he will roll into the fireplace. THe den rug just get me nuts bc everyone trails in and out of there!

ITA!!! I only have a 2 month old but I just know from my 2 older sisters LOL. DH truely believes that DS toys will ONLY be in his room....HA! We also only have a ranch...and in the living room DH has this huge 90 gallon tank. And our ranch is a small ranch..we don't have a dining room or a den... LOL. Soooo... I can't wait till there's toys all over the place and he'll finally see that the tank MUST go!!

I think the bedroom is fine too
But if it were me, even with the rug (I'd get those ABC mats, actually we had one) I'd probably use the den and have the TV on if you are cool with that

we have that foam mat for the basement, can you get those for the den for when it's just you guys? This way he's close to you but can still be mobile without your fear.
DS will only have our den to be in (bedroom and basement are to far, as you know the layout of our hosue) so he'll have to in the room that people come and go in all the time. I honestly think he'd be fine in those rooms you mentioned but if you are uncomfy with it consider the foamy block things. (easy to take apart and put together!)

Jenn, we have this in the den to contain Ezra when he is rolling around. It's also so lightweight and comes apart in seconds to move to other rooms.
It's from One Step Ahead. You could put the ABC mats underneath like the PP suggested to make a play area.

THanks for all the suggestions ladies, I will look into the foam mats, maybe for the den. I also love the idea of that big "play pen" but I honestly don't think we have the room for it.
I still may try to make the bedroom safe as well

We sacrificed our extra room and made it a play room. It has foam mats covered the floor.

I don't, because otherwise he would never sleep in his room. I don not want him to associate his bedroom with playing. We have most of his toys in the basement and a decent amount in our living room that I rotate.

Same here - we use the living room and basement. Her bedroom is too small to play in and on the second floor, so not an option here.

Same, his room has books, and each night he takes 1 toy in to sleep with. The rest are in the playroom and living room.
Our den is his playroom. But the TV is in the living room so he has a toybox in there with some toys as well. We to have a ranch. Honestly, We dont take our shoes off in the house, I vacuum all the time and use alot of lysol!
