Do you work out when you feel you are getting sick?

Just wondering as I have just started to try to get back into shape but I feel like I may be getting sick (sneezing, runny nose, slight fever, etc.). Should I go to the gym anyway?

I don't work out when I am not feeling the best but I know people who do.

I think once you have a fever is when I'd say definitely no. The rest, up to you and how you feel.

The most I'd do with those symptoms is a walk on the treadmill & maybe using the weight machines... I wouldn't run or do anything too tiring, it would just make things worse.

I would still work out with a cold.

it really depends on how sick I feel..Because sometimes when I work out..I find I feel better afterward, actually!

Not a fever/sneezing. But yesterday I had a pretty bad headache and I still worked out. Depends on how bad. Anything respiratory and I don't work out.

Me too.

I skipped yesterday because I wasn't feeling great. I'm feeling better today - not 100% - but, I'm going to go to the gym.

Re: Do you work out when you feel you are getting sick?

if it's from the neck up (head cold) than I usually try a little something but I dont go to the gym. i'll either do some strength training at home or go for a slow jog... i don't want to aggitate my cold by catching anything from the gym. but, if there's a fever or body aches/pains, then i rest up... i don't tire out my body because i want it strong to fight off the illness

I do unless I have a fever. When I am congested my workouts actually help. Chat Icon

Yes, this happens for me too. I think because you produce endorphins when you exercise, which have many health benefits

If I feel a little congested I will still go but if I have a fever I wont.

Ive heard if whatever you have is from the neck up you can still go, if its below the neck then you shouldnt go.

Re: Do you work out when you feel you are getting sick?

I do workout when I don't feel good. Unless I really don't have any energy because then it is counterproductive. But a lot of times, if I catch it in the beginning of a cold, it actually makes me feel better quicker.

Just listen to your body. Rest is a good thing! Feel betterChat Icon
